Yonkers: Wildflower surprises Celebrity Eventsy in Hudson Trot

Dan Dube was all smiles after Wildflower's upset victory

14-1 shot Wildflower got up the final stride to defeat 1-5 favorite Celebrity Eventsy in the $118,574 Hudson Trot for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday night at Yonkers Raceway.

Celebrity Eventsy (John Campbell) made a relatively easy lead from post four, clearing rail starter Wildflower (Dan Dube) well before the 28 2/5 opening quarter.  She then strolled through a half in just 58 2/5 and a three-quarters in 1:27 3/5, which figured to mean lights out for her rivals.  However, she drifted out in the stretch, leaving the door open for Wildflower.  She drove through in the passing lane, and put her nose on the wire at the right time to pick up the victory.  Southwind Hope (Andy Miller) was up for third.

"I looked at the program, and she never makes breaks, which is good for here," offered Dube.  "She's really nice to drive, straight, nothing wrong.  She's just a good filly."

Trainer Ake Svanstedt also co-owns Wildflower, a Muscle Hill filly, with partners Douglas Sipple and Mal and Janet Burroughs LLC.  Wildflower is now a four-time winner from 16 career attempts, and she has earned $225,507.  She returned $31.00 for the win.
