Yonkers: Mandatory payout pick five carryover for Sunday

A two-night carryover in the pick five at Yonkers Raceway will produce a unique opportunity for handicappers on Sunday afternoon. Not only will the seventh race wager feature a $12,601 carryover, but the entire pool must be paid out with Sunday being the last card of the year at the Westchester oval.

The Sunday program, which gets underway at 11:15 a.m. with seven 1-1/4 mile trot races, will be the final card at Yonkers until January 7. New York State rules require the entire pool to be paid out to the player(s) with the most winning combinations, so there can be no carryover if someone fails to select five winners.

Along with Matt Rose, we have looked over the sequence and come up with the following tickets. My ticket comes in a bit pricey, but the last leg seems to have many contenders and I’d hate to get through four legs only to come up short late.

1,2,5,9 / 1,3 / 1,3 / 1,2,4 / 1,2,3,5,6,7 = $144

Matt’s ticket is: 2,9,10 / 1,3,7 / 3,4 / 2,4 / 2,3,5 = $54

The pick five is a .50 cent base wager.
