There was intense action at the outset of the $450,000 Yonkers Trot on Saturday night. Unfortunately for chalk players both favorite Dontyourforgetit and second-choice Creampuff Macdaddy failed to mind their manners. First Dontyouforgetit broke stride as the gate was about to open. Then Creampuff Macdaddy, while vying for the top off the first turn, made a break. Trainer-driver Ray Schnittker instantly seized the opportunity and brushed Dewycolorintheline to the front at the quarter and from that point the race was never in doubt. Dewycolorintheline scored a solid victory in 1:57 3/5 holding Fico at bay easily with Lauderdale finishing third.

The victory was just the first of the season for Dewycolorintheline, a colt from the first crop of Schnittker’s standout performer Deweycheatumnhowe.

It was the first Yonkers Trot triumph for Schnittker, who has been a force at the Westchester County oval for the last decade.

Once Dewycolorintheline had cleared to the front at the :29 quarter he carved out fractions of :57 4/5, 1:27 2/5 trotting a final quarter in :30 1/5 to hold off a weary and luckless group.

“He’s better from off the pace but I knew George (Brennan driving Fico) was driving a longshot so I thought I should go to the front. I know I had a couple of owners up there having a stroke watching me,” Schnittker said following the victory.

Dewycolorintheline is eligible for the Hambletonian on August 3. With the victory the colt upped his career bankroll to $326,457 for owners Schnittker and Deweyclorintheline Stable.

Sent off as a 7-1 third choice in the field Dewycolorintheline returned $16.20 to win.
