Yonkers: In The Arsenal takes Sheppard final

Mike Lizzi
In The Arsenal has won two of three lifetime races.

The $125,000 Lawrence B. Sheppard final for 2-year-old colts appeared to be a two-horse race on paper, but after the first turn the contenders were reduced by one in a hurry as In The Arsenal made the front and the favored Cartoon Daddy made a break.

In The Arsenal quickly took command as Rock N Roll World, Perfect Bet and Cartoon Daddy also left well off the gate. Cartoon Daddy took the turn wide and rolled into a break while Rock N Roll World settled in the pocket ahead of Perfect Bet.

In The Arsenal set soft fractions of 27 4/5, 58 3/5 and 1:28 4/5 without much of a challenge coming from the first over Parklane Eagle and cruised home for driver Eric Goodell the easiest of winners in 1:56 4/5.

Rock N Roll World held second nicely and Parklane Eagle was third.

Kelvin Harrison trains the winner, who has two wins in three career starts, for White Birch Farm.

In The Arsenal paid $6.30 to win.
