2023 MEET STATS: 48 - 134 / $213.40 (-$54.60) BEST BETS: 9 - 13 / $26.50 (+$0.50) Best Bet: SPEED MAN N (5th) Spot Play: AMERICAN FRONTIER (6th) Race 1: 3-6YO NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace (2) BLUE OCEAN returns locally to Yonkers and has some early speed while drawing inside most of his competition. In a race where it's hard to get excited about the favorites perhaps Eric Goodell (remember him?) can work out a pocket trip and sneak by late at a good price. (3) RB tried it from off the pace last week and didn't threaten; I suspect Buter will be more aggressive from the outset tonight. (5) LUCKBEWITHALEX has picked up checks in his four seasonal starts and has a couple of on-the-board finishes; barn is off to a slow start in the top column but those wins will start coming. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: 3-5YO NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace (4) LUCKY STREAK ships up from Maryland and gets a positive barn upgrade; remains to be seen whether he's fast enough to compete here but the price should be right to find out. (1) VARNEY doesn't have much of a career record but he's had some decent local tries. (2) COALFORD BYTHESEA hasn't had the best trips since arriving but he appears to be in a good spot in this abbreviated field. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Yonkers card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 3: NW10381 in last 5 starts Pace (4) INDICTABLE HANOVER has jogged in two straight at odds-on and I'll give him the call to take another despite the bump in class. (3) MACH N CHEESE gets needed class relief in his third seasonal start and also draws better. (1) STONEBRIDGE REX ships in from Mohawk Park into the Stafford barn, and they've had success with these types in the past. He looks like a nice fit class-wise and I wouldn't argue with anyone using him on top. Race 4: 3-5YO NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime Pace (1) PJ LOU gave it a big try in defeat last week in his local return and now with the move inside the Bongiorno trainee looms very large as the one to beat. (6) LOU'S BEACH has been solid in his last two with Lasix added; he loses Gingras and lands outside, but that helps the price. (2) GREG THE LEG blasted down the road from the eight hole last week at over 9/1; shorter price looming here despite facing better. Race 5: NW23501 in last 5 starts Pace (4) SPEED MAN N makes his second start back from vacation and lands in a much more realistic spot tonight. Don't forget that he's a legit Open-type pacer so he should be able to handle these. (1) ON THE CARDS N was very good in his seasonal debut then had no chance last week. Move all the way inside makes him a player. (5) THEFLYINGROCK has been good for the Engblom barn but has something to prove facing this caliber, and having #4 inside of him doesn't help matters. Can't see any way he's the favorite here like his morning line suggests. With that said, he can't be counted out with the leading driver piloting. Race 6: 3-6YO NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace (5) AMERICAN FRONTIER has yet to find the winner's circle at this NW4 level but he's been competitive with these and he does get some post relief. Expect Bartlett to be sending this Engblom gelding hard off the gate. (1) BLACK EDITION N was second best last week and could be looking at a similar pocket trip tonight. (3) HURRIKANE CHUCK is lightly raced but does have talent; he faces better here looking for three straight. Race 7: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace (2) KEYSTONE DASH ran into a sharp winner last week but was clearly second best again; he steps up a notch and faces some droppers but he draws well and is capable with a good trip. (4) BRAEVIEW BONDI A figures to really appreciate the class relief; big chance. (6) DEETZY has early speed and a driver who isn't afraid to utilize it. Race 8: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace (3) BETTER WATCH IT was sent to the front last week and was just nipped by the pocket sitter; with the post edge on her main rivals maybe she can finally break into the win column after being runner-up in four of six this year. (8) CHUPPAH ON lands all the way outside again and could be blasting. (6) LINE EM UP beat the top choice from the pocket last start but she started from the rail; move outside hurts her chances of repeating. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 9: NW5621 in last 5 starts Pace (2) SAULSBROOK HERO gets some needed class relief and draws well; Forte trainee is capable of storming home with the right setup, or grinding it out if close to the pace. (3) ONE OFF DELIGHT A hasn't done much in his last few but he missed a nose from a similar post when last at this level. (1) CAPTAINS PLACE has no current form to speak of but he does drop in class again and moves all the way inside. Race 10: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace (2) SHECANDANCE N is the most accomplished of these at this claiming level and from the inside draw with Bartlett in the bike she has the look of an odds-on winner to close out the card. (6) LAURIE LEE is back in with these claimers after a couple of recent wins at lower levels; DiDomenico trainee may need some help but could rally past the rest for second. (1) SPITTING IMAGE was uncovered into a rated pace in her 2023 debut and was turned away; she deserves another look from this inside post.
