MEET STATS: 32 - 84 / $164.80
Best Bet: WESTERN SHORE (7th) Spot Play: JERRYS BROWN GOLD (8th)
Race 1
(1) EMERALD EXPRESS has been crying out for an inside post; now is his chance to shine. (2) KEYSTONE RIDEAU gets class and post relief but he isn't the most reliable sort. (5) LIGHTNING RIDGE N was abused early and understandably tired last week; chance for a piece here with a smoother trip.
Race 2
(5) DOUBLESHOTASCOTCH has been a mild disappointment of late but the Ford trainee tries Brennan tonight and he seems capable of improvement. (2) PALMERS Z TAM dropped to this level last week and flashed speed from post eight before tiring; Lachance charge should be better tonight. (3) DEFIANCE N was game in defeat last week.
Race 3
(4) MAJOR BELLE was a rock-solid runner-up at The Meadowlands last week and the Burke charge looks like a perfect fit here, (7) NOBLES GRAND SLAM was used hard in the early stages to secure the front last out and understandably tired; he should be a good price tonight. (1) GOOSE CREEK knows his way around this track.
Race 4
(4) OK BRAVEHEART was in against some tough ones in his debut for Josh Green; veteran is back at the level of the claim and he should be more involved tonight. (1) STONEBRIDGE WISH overcame a break to win but was taken down; another chance at the rail here but he loses Bartlett. (2) WHITE MOUNTAIN TOP is back on short rest and he can threaten with a smoother trip.
Race 5
(3) WHATSITTOYOUGRANT is back in with claimers and he can be trouble with an alert getaway. (4) SAND SUMMERFIELD beat better than these three back but his last two weren't all that inspiring. (1) ARTS LAIR should go well from this spot.
Race 6
(5) ROCK TO GLORY gets a class test tonight but the four-year-old was super in victory last out and he just may be good enough. (7) FORIEGN OFFICER finished with pace but was too far back last week; can Stratton get him closer early? (3) HERE WE GO AGAIN has hit the board in six of seven since arriving but he appears to be the camera-shy type.
Race 7
(3) WESTERN SHORE held firm off a long uncovered trip upon arrival; Brennan will head to the lead tonight and never look back. (5) HANDSOME HARRY was stung to the lead and came up flat late last week; he's better than that. (1) TIREMAN can sit close here and hold for a share.
Race 8
(1) JERRYS BROWN GOLD was in a no-chance spot when hiked to the Open ranks last week; he's back at a winning level and Brennan's back aboard. (3) WAYNE THE LEFTY has been solid in his last two. (2) SAILING CRUISE beat up lesser.
Race 9
(4) TUNEARIFFIC is another Burke shipper that appears primed for action. (1) VERTICAL HORIZON draws best, fits nicely here. (8) JACKED UP rallied gamely off a tough trip last week; unfortunately he will likely be done in by post eight.
Race 10
(1) J J GLADIATOR gets the post relief he needs to get him over the top. (5) SPY N was closing with plenty when he got in tight at the wire last week; he's always a threat with this type. (2) ELECTRIC OUI should be sitting close up throughout.
Race 11
(1) NOB HILL HIGH gets a free ride at this class and he draws best to boot; one would expect him to easily repeat. (6) PEMBROKE NICK was a game winner first-time Pena; can Brennan coax speed out of him from post six? (2) SHOW ME UP gets needed post relief.
Race 12
(4) VILLAGE BEAT has been a bit disappointing since entering the McDermott barn; maybe the move to the smaller track will help him out. (1) B J'S BEQUIA drops, draws best and looks like the likely favorite. (2) LIFE UP FRONT is another that gets class relief.
Best Bets
The last-start $12.5k claiming win by ADAM SUANCES was even better than it looks on paper. He got shuffled back on the turn, stayed calm, swung to the outside, and powered away by two and a half lengths while tons best. The sharp gelding handles adversity, he strings together his good races, and is a pro on this track (3-for-6). Take him right back at one level higher. He will have to catch PEACENIK, runaway winner of an $8k claimer last out in the fastest race of the meet at six and a half furlongs (1:16.15). Claimed by Craig Dollase, he jumps up three levels and might be this good.
