MEET STATS: 14 - 36 / $86.60
Best Bet: BIG BAY POINT (11th) Spot Play: JERRYS BROWN GOLD (9th)
Race 1
(4) MCAPULCO showed some of his back class with that recent victory and that can give him the confidence to repeat. (1) RUCKER PLACE has the rail and Brennan driving but he's not a prolific winner. (2) MCRUSTY never really fired in his local debut.
Race 2
(5) ROADWAY rallied willingly for a small share out of the eight hole just five days ago; Burke charge appears sharp enough to take this. (1) EXPENSIVE TOY had little excuse last out; draws best tonight. (6) LISLEA MILES bumps up in class in his debut for Pena; let's see if he can maintain his decent form.
Race 3
(6) HANDSOME HARRY has the speed to make the top here; if he can clear the lead he may be very tough to deny. (1) DEFIANCE N returns at a reduced level and he would appear pretty logical from this spot. (8) NOBLES GRAND SLAM also gets serious class relief but he has to overcome post eight.
Race 4
(3) WHATSITTOYOUGRANT had strong pace at both ends of his mile last out and he appears to be deserving of that respect on the morning line. (6) TENANT IN CHIEF had pace in traffic last start. (8) EMERALD EXPRESS was very gutsy in defeat but he may be done in tonight by the post.
Race 5
(1) STONEBRIDGE WISH returns to the small track tonight and he looks like the clear one to deny here. (3) GREYSTONE CASH was the post-time favorite when mysteriously scratched last out; he freshened up nicely in that qualifier. (4) CLOONEY DRUMMOND saved ground and finished with pace in last; he could compete for a small share here.
Race 6
(5) FORIEGN OFFICER looked good when last seen here, then may have been a touch overmatched at The Meadowlands; this looks like a winning spot. (1) HERE WE GO AGAIN is always right there but can't seem to win; he should be in line for a stalking trip tonight. (2) GRAB YOUR KEYS should save ground and he can hit the ticket.
Race 7
(1) PEMBROKE NICK has shown flashes of serious ability; let's take a shot first-time Lou Pena. (3) SAND BENELLI had been a good earner for the Laterza barn. (6) REPORT FOR DUTY N had a nice run here last fall but he loses Brennan tonight.
Race 8
(4) ROCK TO GLORY ran into a buzzsaw in his last two starts at The Meadowlands and he proved game in defeat; Brennan can have him forwardly placed from this spot. (3) CORKY BARAN came out of the same race as the top choice and he was in an impossible spot. (2) ART TWO D TWO has been good for the Buter barn.
Race 9
(4) JERRYS BROWN GOLD paced over a classy rival in last week's qualifier and he should be ready to roll. (3) SPY N drops and gets post relief; obvious contender. (1) JACKED UP draws best, but it looks like he's forgotten how to win.
Race 10
(3) ELECTRIC OUI was game in refeat after a rugged uncovered try in his second start for new connections; he draws well here in this suspect field and he deserves top billing. (6) EMJAYEM GRAND A raced well when last seen at this level. (7) SFUMATO is stuck outside again, could Bartlett try to fire from the gate?
Race 11
(5) BIG BAY POINT tore up the track when last seen here and he can start a new winning streak tonight. (1) HICKORY HORACE draws best looking for three in a row and he looks in line for a pocket ride from this spot. (3) BETTOR DESIGN appeared to need that eight-hole tightener.
Race 12
(8) SOUTHERN ALLIE was my best bet last week but they cancelled; I'll stick with him again and expect a better price tonight. (3) SOUTHWIND TABOR passed the $800,000 lifetime mark last out with that second place finish; Laterza trainee is remarkably consistent. (5) SAILING CRUISE could prove to be best of the rest.
Best Bets
READ THE SIGNS had a useful tightener first time out, finishing evenly in a sprint and winding up just three lengths behind the runner-up, while earning this group's best last-out Beyer; stretches out from favorable post and drops in with New York-bred fillies and mares that are combined 0 for 90. MOMMY'S DEAREST was clear thru 6fs in slow 1:17, led to deep stretch before finally being run down by Tropical Jetset, who left maiden ranks on the 22nd try; cutting back 70 yards can only help.
