Yonkers: 12 millionaires eligible to the Levy and Matchmaker

The nominations for the six-week long George Morton Levy Memorial and the Blue Chip Matchmaker series’ at Yonkers Raceway were released and the list of entrants is star-studded. An amazing 12 millionaires are eligible to the two events, four for the Levy and eight for the Matchmaker.

The Levy, a free-for-all event for older pacers, offers five preliminary rounds sporting $50,000 purses for each division. It culminates with a minimum $200,000 final, but the purse typically escalates well over the $400,000 plateau (2011 final was $495,000).

Headlining the 2012 Levy is $3.3 million earner Foiled Again. The 2009 and 2010 Levy champion is coming off a Pacer of the Year campaign and needs less than $1 million in earnings to become the richest pacer in history (Gallo Blue Chip $4,260,959). The 8-year-old Ron Burke trainee is prepping for the March 24 first leg by qualifying at the Meadowlands.

Real Nice is the reigning Levy champ. The 7-year-old had the best season of his career last year ($523,042) and is just a few Levy checks away from the $1 million mark in lifetime earnings.

Other top earners on the eligible list are Atochia ($1.3 million career), One More Laugh ($2.3 million), and Silent Swing (1.6 million).

There will be no repeat winner in the Blue Chip Matchmaker, but two ladies will have the opportunity to pick up their second trophy in the free-for-all event for older pacing mares. Ginger And Fred  (2010) and Pancleefandarpels (2009) will seek to add to their million dollar résumés in the $40,000 preliminary legs over five weeks and then the expected $300k-plus final on April 28.

With 14 mares sporting career earnings of $625,000 or more, it is hard to say there is a horse to beat. But 2011 Pacing Mare of the Year Anndrovette certainly deserves top billing. The 5-year-old is scheduled to start in the Overbid final on Saturday at the Meadowlands before possibly taking the trip across the Hudson to compete in the Matchmaker.

Rounding out the list of millionaires nominated to the Matchmaker are: Shacked Up; Western Silk; Symphony In Motion; Chancey Lady; and See You At Peelers.
