Xchanger could resurface at Oaklawn or Gulf

Xchanger, a troubled third in the Grade 3, $1 million Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs, was due back at his base at the Fair Hill training center in Maryland on Wednesday and will be freshened before any next-race plans are made, said his trainer, Mark Shuman.

"Most likely we'll not look for a race until the end of January, beginning of February," said Shuman, who is discussing options with owner Domenico Zannino.

Shuman said Xchanger could run in some of the 3-year-old stakes at either Oaklawn Park or Gulfstream.

Xchanger won the Grade 3 Sapling at Monmouth. In the Jackpot, he was forced to steady behind tiring pacesetter Go Poppa Fooze going into the final turn of the 1 1/16-mile race, which was run on a six-furlong bullring.

"We kind of didn't have anywhere to go, and that's right where we were told all week that you've got to be running - you've got to be in full gear by the time you're in the turn," said Shuman. "I was very impressed with him after doing that and still kicking on."

Xchanger finished third, 3 3/4 lengths behind the winner, Birdbirdistheword.
