Wyomia, Emile Ramsammy up, wins the Mazarine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Wyomia, who is coming off an impressive win in the Grade 3 Mazarine over 1 1/16 miles on the main track here Oct. 9, is headed for the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs. But while trainer Danny Vella originally had considered pointing Wyomia for the Juvenile Fillies at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt, he now plans to pre-enter her in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

“She trains on Polytrack, and to switch and run on dirt, in my opinion, can be dangerous for a young 2-year-old,” said Vella, who conditions Wyomia for owners Ed Seltzer and Beverley Anderson. “I’m looking long-term with her, and turf is the safer surface for her right now.”

Wyomia began her career on turf, finishing fifth in a seven-furlong race that served as an educational experience, and then won over a mile and 70 yards of Polytrack in her only other start prior to the Mazarine.

Julien Leparoux has been engaged to ride Wyomia in the Juvenile Fillies Turf on the Friday, Nov. 5, program.
