Woodlawn: Timo one to beat

Fourteen 3-year-olds were entered, but Saturday's $100,000 Woodlawn Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf looks like a two-horse race between New York shippers Timo and Artie Schiller.

, trained by Billy Badgett, has won three stakes races while the rest of the field combined has won two. Timo won the Grade 3 Transylvania at Keeneland on April 2 from just off the pace. He won the Mecke last November after being last early.

"I'd like to see him maybe a shade farther back than the race at Keeneland, but not as far back as the Mecke,'' Badgett said. "The pace scenario doesn't affect him a lot. I thought at Keeneland he might have to be a little bit closer the way the turf was playing that day.''

Edgar Prado rides Timo from post 5.

Artie Schiller has won 3 of 4 starts on turf, his only loss coming when he finished second to Timo in the Pilgrim Stakes last Oct. 19 at Belmont. That day, Artie Schiller gave four pounds to Timo. Saturday, he's in receipt of seven pounds from Timo.

After finishing fourth in the off-the-turf Dave Feldman Stakes in January, Artie Schiller suffered a training setback in Florida. He returned with a strong second-level allowance win versus older horses at Aqueduct on May 1, earning a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 96. Richard Migliore rides from post 9.

Big Booster, Potomac Chase, and Indigo Flyer would appear to have the best upset chances.
