Woodlands: Shelby Dee in good spot

Shelby Dee, a winner the one time she ran against fillies, will return to racing against her own gender in the $10,000 KTA Futurity at The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kan.

The 5 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies is restricted to the offspring of eligible stallions.

Shelby Dee began her career running against males at Lincoln in Nebraska, finishing fourth in a June 11 maiden race. One start later, she took on fillies and rolled to a three-length maiden win at Columbus, also in Nebraska, on Aug. 21. Among the horses Shelby Dee defeated was Any Dream Will Do, who one start later won the Columbus Debutante.

Shelby Dee was back with colts last out, finishing second in a restricted allowance at Horsemen's Atokad Downs in Nebraska on Sept. 11. She raced farther back than usual, and figures to be closer to the pace Sunday.

Trainer Kelly Clark has given the mount to Kelly Murray.
