Woodlands: Another Audible vs. males

EmailAnother Audible will be taking on male rivals in the $20,000 Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Handicap at The Woodlands on Saturday, but is the one to beat, based on her career record of seven wins - by a combined margin of 58 1/2 lengths - from 10 starts. She is one of eight in the six-furlong race that also drew recent stakes winners Seneca Summer and Manovan.

Another Audible also owns the field's highest last-race Beyer Speed Figure, the 91 she earned for a 9 1/4-length win over colts and geldings in an allowance at The Woodlands on Sept. 24. The win came going wire to wire, the same tactics Another Audible has used in all of her victories since launching her career with a 12-length debut win at Fonner Park in February.

Beth Butler is the regular rider on Another Audible, a 4-year-old daughter of Menifee. She is trained by her owner, Milton Gaede.

The chief threat appears to be Seneca Summer. The winner of the $45,000 Shot of Gold at Canterbury on May 5, he invades from Remington Park. He last raced on Sept. 9, and had the misfortune of hooking Remington's dominant sprinter, Mystery Classic, in the $50,000 Taliaferro Memorial.

Seneca Summer tracked the pace between rivals that day and finished eighth. He figures to move forward Saturday in what will be his second start since July. Seneca Summer also could get a nice tracking trip behind such rivals as Another Audible, Manovan, and Icy Tobin, who in his last start ran a half-mile in 43.20 seconds in an optional claimer in which he finished fifth. Ken Shino has the mount on Seneca Summer for trainer Bernell Rhone.
