Woodbine: Wake at Noon wins Vigil

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Wake at Noon blew away six accomplished rivals in the $164,700 Vigil Handicap, winning by 3 1/4 lengths under Emile Ramsammy.

Wake at Noon, the reigning Canadian Horse of the Year, dueled up front with three others through fractions of 22.15 and 44.44 seconds in the seven-furlong dash. He opened up a clear lead on the turn and never looked back, timed in 1:23.25.

Shaws Creek, a 25-1 shot, rallied to finish two lengths clear of Cheap Talk in second. Forever Grand, Davids Expectation, Krz Ruckus, and Boston Common completed the order of finish.

It was the second consecutive victory in the Grade 3 Vigil for Wake at Noon, who returned $5.40 and earned $98,820 for owner Bruno Schickedanz and trainer Abraham Katryan.

Katryan said he modified Wake at Noon's blinkers in order to extract more speed from him. "We put closed blinkers on him, to try and get him to focus a little more," he said. "I think it worked out well."
