Ultimate Destiny (No. 6) beats Good Better Best by a head in the Steady Growth Stakes on Saturday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Ultimate Destiny ($9.50) edged out Good Better Best to notch his first stakes victory Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,800 Steady Growth.

Ultimate Destiny had an ideal stalking trip in the 1 1/16-mile route and took dead aim at Good Better Best in the stretch before getting up by a head in 1:44.33. Bobcaygeon finished another four lengths back in third, a nose in front of Head Honcho. The favored Fifty Proof faded to sixth in the field of 10 Ontario-sired runners after tracking a slow pace on the outside.

Eurico Rosa da Silva rode Ultimate Destiny, who banked $75,000 for owner and trainer Alec Fehr.

“Everything worked right for my horse today,” said da Silva. “He positioned himself close and was traveling very relaxed. He was just waiting for me to turn him loose. When I asked him, he really responded good for me.”

Northern Passion wins Zadracarta

The favored Northern Passion ($4.30) rallied strongly on the outside and caught 8-1 shot Why Katherine on the wire to take Saturday’s $125,400 Zadracarta Stakes by a neck under Luis Contreras.

Trained by Mark Casse for owner John Oxley, Northern Passion covered seven furlongs over good turf in 1:23.11 in the race for Ontario-bred fillies and mares.
