Woodbine: Third Day wins via DQ

Email

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - First-time starter Third Day won the $137,750 Victoria Stakes at Woodbine when Gemini Dream was disqualified from first and placed sixth for interference.

Gemini Dream went straight to the front from the outside in the five-furlong dash for 2-year-olds. Favored Stormthebarricade stalked the pace along the rail, but fell at the three-eighths pole after clipping heels with Gemini Dream, who had been angled in heading into the turn.

Gemini Dream opened up a substantial lead after the spill, and cruised home on top by 2 1/4 lengths over a closing Third Day. Bachelor Blues finished another seven lengths back in third, and was placed second. Stormthebarricade was walked off the track under his own power.

The time was 57.86 seconds.

Third Day returned $37 and earned $82,650 for Gaillardia Racing and trainer Mark Casse.
