Woodbine sale has $35K top

Noble Heart, a mare in foal to Bold Executive, sold for $35,000 to top the 2006 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's winter mixed sale Saturday at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion.

Frank and Clara Russo purchased Noble Heart from the Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, as agent. An unraced daughter of Swain, Noble Heart is a half-sister to stakes winner Noble Strike and stakes-placed Sir Frederick.

Two mares brought $27,000 apiece. Both were purchased by Windways Farm Limited from Shannondoe Farm, agent. One, Casual Rendezvous, is the dam of stakes winner Devil Valentine and is in foal to Touch Gold. The other, Jilted Love, is in foal to Five Star Day.

The top-priced yearling was a $22,000 Deputy Commander filly, purchased by Un Stable from Hill 'n' Dale.

Good Guys Stable bought the highest-priced weanling, a $15,500 filly by Iskandar Elakbar, also consigned by Hill 'n' Dale.

A total of 125 horses were sold, grossing $592,500. The sale's average, $4,740, was 17.5 percent higher than last year, when 127 lots brought $512,400, for an average of $4,035.
