Roxy Gap, with Patrick Husbands up, wins the Grade 2 Hendrie Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Roxy Gap tracked the leaders and then pounced in the lane to take the $183,000 Hendrie Stakes under Patrick Husbands on Saturday at Woodbine.

Roxy Gap won the Grade 2 event by 2 1/2 lengths over Kentucky shipper Dr. Diamonds Prize, who got the better of third-place finisher Sweet Cassiopeia in the front-end battle. The fractions were modest, and the final time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:16.46. She paid $3.70.

The Mark Casse-trained Roxy Gap, who banked $120,000 for Melnyk Racing Stable, was coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes.

“She was relaxed,” said Husbands, who broke from post 1. “Last time, when I was on the outside, she was aggressive. Now, she was on the inside, and she was the boss today.”

The field size was reduced to six with the scratches to Kitty in a Tizzy, Dance to the Moon, and reigning Canadian champion female sprinter Atlantic Hurricane.
