Woodbine: Rare Friends unbeaten


ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Rare Friends remained unbeaten in three starts with an impressive front-running score in the $102,800 Simcoe Stakes, the first of six stakes on the Woodbine card restricted to graduates of local yearling sales.

Rare Friends ($6.20) prevailed by 2 3/4 lengths over Mighty Quinn, who was three lengths clear of third-place finisher Molly's Wisdom in the seven-furlong dash for male 2-year-olds.

Miss Noire ($15.80) rallied to collar Parisia in the final strides for a three-quarter-length tally in the $102,700 Muskoka for 2-year-old fillies.

Steady Ruckus ($4.10) led most of the way for a three-quarter-length triumph over Bristol Pistol in the $102,100 Halton, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for older runners.

Healing Knowledge ($15.80) ran down favored Pete's Fancy in the stretch to take the $101,700 Algoma for fillies and mares by 1 3/4 lengths.

Bold n' Fancy ($21.10) pressed the pace along the rail under Jake Barton and scooted away in the stretch for a half-length victory in the $101,900 Elgin for older horses.

Estonia ($8.50) closed along the inside from just off the pace to capture the $102,000 Kenora for 3-year-olds-and-up by a half-length.
