ETOBICOKE, Ontario—Check Your Soul stamped himself as a contender for the June 26 Queen’s Plate on Sunday at Woodbine with a decisive score in the $115,000 Wando Stakes. With Patrick Husbands aboard, Check Your Soul ($3.20) went five-wide on the first turn in the 1 1/16-mile route for 3-year-olds, before racing three lengths off a sleepy pace set by Something Extra. Check Your Soul made a four-wide bid for the lead on the far turn, and then hit the front at the head of the stretch before drawing off on his left lead to win by 2 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1:45.29. The maiden Whippit rallied for second, and Top Prospect finished third in a field reduced to five with the late scratch of Silverleo. Check Your Soul banked $72,000 in his stakes debut for owner Charles Fipke and trainer Roger Attfield. “He’d been training very well,” said Attfield. “He ran a little greenly down the lane, but he was very dominant, wasn’t he? I’m very pleased with him. He’ll run all day.”
