ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Phantom Light dueled through honest fractions and kept on going to score his first stakes win in the Grade 3 Eclipse Handicap.

Phantom Light hooked up with Tempered Appeal through fractions of 23.15 seconds and 46.94 in the 1 1/16-mile race for older runners. Phantom Light assumed command on the far turn and drew off from a stalking Anglian Prince in the stretch to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths in a final time of 1:43.62.

No Comprende rallied wide from far back to finish 2 1/4 lengths clear of Anglian Prince in second. Indy Lead, the 3-1 favorite, was 11th in the 12-horse field.

"I expected him to run well today," said Robert Landry, who rode Phantom Light. "He was a little sharper than I thought he was going to be. I had a lot of horse at the top of the lane, and I knew somebody had to be running to go by him."

Phantom Light ($12) earned $103,590 of the $172,650 purse for Stronach Stable. He is trained by Danny Vella.
