Woodbine: Monday 10/29 Analysis

Best Bet: SHOPPING WITH ART (10th)     Spot Play: STAR PHOTO (9th)

Race 1

(7) ELLIS PARK scored an impressive qualifying effort in his return. He used a good final quarter and I think he can drop a few seconds and that should be good enough to win. (2) DREYDL HANOVER finished second last week, beaten just a length. He draws inside again and should be very competitive in this field. (1) STONEBRIDGE ADAM was simply too far back last week, but that shouldn't happen in here from a post one start.

Race 2

(7) JOHNNY COME LATELY captured the narrow victory at this level last week after a first-over grind around the final turn. He's certainly capable of winning again. (5) BOXCAR moves into the O'Sullivan stable which is never a bad move. I'm not sure how fast he can go, but he's won eight of 12 starts this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped multiple seconds. (2) ANNUITY is hot and cold this season. He finally draws inside and will make the most of it.

Race 3

(1) UNDERCOVER STRIKE has won three-straight at Woodbine. He moved into O'Sullivan's barn last week and looked terrific. He was well in-hand under the wire. (3) WISHING STONE was supposed to race in the Breeders Crown, but missed the entry box. With that being said, he should be very competitive in this field and could even win. (2) COCO LINDY certainly has had a good season racing against some tough competition. He's very versatile and I like that in this short field.

Race 4

(7) LIFEIMITTATESART put in a good effort last week to finish second in a rather tough field. I feel this field is slightly weaker and he certainly can win. (2) FLIGHT EXEC looks like he's tailed off a little, but he did have post 10 last week, which I'm going to overlook. I hope he uses his gate-speed with the inside post. (9) AUTUMN GOTTEM perhaps might be my top selection had he drawn inside. He doesn't show the best speed off the gate and could get away too far back.

Race 5

(2) OK FANTASTIC has banked nearly $90,000 this season and hasn't won a race. It could certainly happen in here as he looks like he's the horse to beat. Keep in mind, he usually offers value. (7) LONG FLIGHT HANOVER made a miscue in his last start and that's not like him. Other than that, he's very consistent. (5) SOUTHWIND RAZOR hasn't missed the board yet this season including a victory.

Race 6

(2) SLIP INTO GLIDE is the richest horse in the field this season and gets major class relief. He'll attract a lot of attention and rightfully so. (10) HESGOTLEGS has shown his terrific gate-speed and he'll need it once again to overcome post 10. (3) HIGHLAND YANKEE was only beaten two-lengths last week and will be that much better in here. If he's closer to the front, I like his chances to hit the board.

Race 7

(3) NATURAL HABITAT might be a longshot to some bettors, but this class is never easy to handicap. He's on lasix for the first time and I'm hoping that helps. (9) LEAFS AND WINGS qualified very well with a speedy time at Mohawk. It looks like he's ready to go. He shows he's got gate-speed, which will help. (5) SUNSET ART went gate-to-wire in his last start over a sloppy track at Rideau Carleton. He's had a good 2012 campaign.

Race 8

(5) NJS TRICK PISTOL got a great trip last week and made the most of it. Again, this is not a deep bunch. He should make a good showing of himself. (6) DARK PRINCE doesn't like to win, but is classified right. (7) WESTERN POSSE went a tough trip last week. If he gets a cleaner drive, he could be a factor.

Race 9

(4) STAR PHOTO has won 10 of 26 starts this season and Moreau's barn has been terrific lately. (2) SOMBRERO HALL gets class relief and continues to trot in the 1:54 range and that should make him very competitive. (3) CATCH THE DREAM certainly has found his best stride late in the season. He certainly belongs in this class and proved before he's a top contender.

Race 10

(7) SHOPPING WITH ART will likely go off as the post time favourite and rightfully so. He continues to drop seconds in both his career appearances and has good gate-speed. (4) BREES CREEK had to deal with post 10 last week, but draws inside in this field. I can see him being forwardly placed and he has enough speed and talent to be top three. (8) DOOWRAH OMELET has won five of 11 starts this season and returns to this circuit. He's at the same level that he's always been competitive at.

Race 11

(6) WINBAK WARRIOR raced very well last week, but was too far back. I can't see that happening again. He'll likely go off as the post time favourite. (4) SHAWS CREEK BUFF closed very well last week for Waples and if he gets a cleaner trip, he's a top contender. (7) CURIOUS PHOENIX has shown that he's inconsistent at times this season, but I did like his latest performance over a very sloppy track.

Race 12

(6) GARETH NOURRIR has been racing terrific in his last number of starts. He'll likely offer minimal value and rightfully so. (4) MACHAL ANGELO has a good reputation for being top three this season and draws a good post. He's very versatile and has won at this level before. (1) MISSISSIPPI HIPPY draws inside and enjoys racing from behind. He has finished third in four of his last five starts.
