Woodbine mixed sale has 166 on offer

A total of 166 broodmares, yearlings, weanlings, and stallion seasons have been cataloged for the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's annual winter mixed sale at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion on Saturday.

Major consignors to the sale include agents Ascot Stud, Cara Bloodstock, Gardiner Farm, Beth Hancock, Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, Richard Hogan and Rancho Park Management, along with Sam-Son Farm.

Sam-Son will sell seven head, including the broodmares Keys to Heaven, who is in foal to Corinthian, and Sails Unfurled, who is carrying a foal by Student Council. Sails Unfurled is the dam of the unbeaten Battle at Sea, a recent allowance winner at Woodbine.

Gardiner Farm will sell a host of broodmares, including Commendablecharity, who is carrying her third foal, by Sligo Bay. Gardiner also has weanlings by Bold Executive, Philanthropist, Trajectory, and Peaks and Valleys.

Among the Hill 'n' Dale Farm consignment is the Affirmed mare Barbed Wire, who won the 1996 Mazarine Breeders' Cup Stakes. Barbed Wire is in foal to Survivalist.

One of the more appealing Hill 'n' Dale offerings is the well-bred 4-year-old Winning Idea, who is in foal to Seeking the Best.

The one-day sale is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
