Marketing Mix, under Julien Leparoux, wins the Nassau Stakes over soft turf at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Marketing Mix wore down Roxy Gap in the final furlong to capture the $358,800 Nassau Stakes in workmanlike fashion at Woodbine Saturday.

Marketing Mix handled the soft turf adequately in the one-mile Nassau, coming from third to win the Grade 2 event by a 1 1/4 lengths in 1:37.74. Roxy Gap tracked the slow pace en route to running second, and her stablemate Indian Pond rallied for third. Inglorious, last year’s Queen’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks winner, finished a flat fourth in a field reduced to six with the scratch of Skylara.

Julien Leparoux rode Marketing Mix for trainer Tom Proctor. She paid $4.

“We got a good post, so we could do whatever we wanted,” said Leparoux. “I let her drop a little off the pace, and she finished good for me. I think she’s probably better on the firm, but the long straight helped her a lot. She took a long time to get going on this kind of track.”

Marketing Mix, who earned $216,000 for Glen Hill Farm, is slated to make her next start in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes here July 8.

* The favored Anywhere came wide from a stalking position to take the $125,000 Ballade Stakes over a closing Weekend Romance on Saturday.

With Luis Contreras riding for trainer Bob Tiller, Anywhere ran six furlongs on the Polytrack in 1:09.14. She paid $7 for winning the sprint for Ontario-sired females.

Tiller and Contreras both won three races on the card.
