Main Executive put away favored Verne's Baby on the turn before drawing away to win his first stakes in the $126,200 New Providence at Woodbine. Main Executive and Verne's Baby dueled on the lead through fractions of 22.37 and 44.86 seconds in the six-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired runners. Main Executive ($11.80) opened up a clear lead at the head of the stretch, then coasted home on top by 2 1/4 lengths, in a quick final time of 1:09.20. The longshot Millfleet finished a length ahead of the third-place finisher, Dave the Knave, while Verne's Baby faded to fifth in the eight-horse field. "He was all business today," said Richard Dos Ramos, who rode Main Executive for trainer Radlie Loney. "At the three-eighths pole, he wanted to on a little quicker, and I had to slow him up a bit. When I gave him his head, he accelerated." Main Executive earned $75,000 for his owner-breeder, Bruno Brothers Farm.
