Woodbine: Leigh Court rolls on front end in La Lorgnette

Email

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Favored Leigh Court notched her third straight stakes in front-running style Saturday at Woodbine in the $128,250 La Lorgnette.

Leigh Court ($5.80) set honest fractions in the driving rain in the 1 1/16-mile route and then drew off in the lane to prevail by 5 1/4 lengths in 1:43.32. Overheard finished a clear second, and second choice Spring in the Air was a flat third in the six-horse field of 3-year-old fillies.

Gary Boulanger rode Leigh Court for Melnyk Racing Stable and trainer Josie Carroll.

“Her and I seem to click,” Boulanger said. “She was pretty settled, for her. A half in 47.86 is real easy for  her. The middle of the turn, I heard them coming. She pinned an ear and I picked her up, and she kicked home really hard. She’s a pretty tenacious filly.”

Deputy Jane West: Lapsang stays perfect

Lapsang ($3) remained unbeaten in her first stakes appearance in Saturday’s $114,800 Deputy Jane West, a six-furlong overnight stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

The Suzanne Drake-trained Lapsang covered the distance in 1:10.84 under Omar Moreno, while scoring by neck over Dulcify. After opening up a clear lead on the turn, Enoree weakened to third in a field reduced to four with the scratch of Ria Antonia.
