Woodbine: Last Answer rallies

Last Answer ($32.10) circled into contention on the far turn and held off a closing Rainbows for Luck in the stretch to capture the $108,000 Chief Bearhart Stakes at Woodbine.

Jono Jones rated Last Answer about five lengths off the early pace in the 1 1/4-mile event, as Sky Diamond and My Pal Lana dueled through honest fractions over a course labeled yielding.

Last Answer made a four-wide bid heading into the far turn and hit the front inside the quarter pole en route to a half-length victory. Control Tower finished another four lengths back in third, while favored Mark One was a troubled seventh in the 10-horse field. Fisher Pond was scratched.

"He ran big and enjoyed the ground," said Mike Keogh, who trains Last Answer for owner Gustav Schickedanz. "He's run well on that kind of turf before, and he wants to go all day."

Last Answer covered the distance in 2:09.67 and earned $64,800 in his first stakes triumph.
