ETOBICOKE, Ontario— Prospective outran stablemate Patrioticandproud to take the $153,300 Victoria Park Stakes under Luis Contreras at Woodbine on Sunday.
After bobbling at the break, Prospective raced in third in the four-horse field, as shipper Holiday Promise set honest fractions in the nine-furlong route for 3-year-olds. Holiday Promise retreated on the far turn, where Patrioticandproud assumed command before giving way in the final furlong to Prospective, who prevailed by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:51.08. Courtville finished a distant third.
Moon Traveler was scratched by trainer Mark Casse, who saddled the top two finishers. Prospective was coming off a troubled 18th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby.
“I was happy with the way he ran today,” said Contreras. “I got a perfect trip. I used my horse a little coming out of the gate, and after that, he relaxed pretty good.”
Prospective returned $2.90, and collected $94,500 for owner John Oxley.
Small field....zero comments...welcome to Woodbine.

SIZZLING GOLD looks well situated. The 6yo mare has been a pro for a long time - you don't win 11 times by accident - and some of her best work has come sprinting on turf, on THIS turf course. After nearly 4 months off she came back to be a solid 3rd for $40K on this course June 2 and with that under her belt and a 2-level class drop she looks primed. Oh, that bullet :47 move here June 15 looks like a thumbs-up, too. HEAT TRAP finished full of run to get up in the final stride and in her turf sprint debut here May 19. She obviously has ability but it's first time vs.
