Woodbine jockeys appeal ban

Jockeys Patrick Husbands and Constant Montpellier both have appealed suspensions issued in rulings by the Ontario Racing Commission stewards at Woodbine last Saturday.

The rulings followed an altercation in the jockeys' quarters on Nov. 11 and a subsequent incident on the racetrack.

Husbands, who was suspended for 60 calendar days, will be allowed to ride pending an appeal hearing.

Montpellier, who was suspended for 150 calendar days, has been unable to ride after being diagnosed with a concussion several days after he was assaulted by Husbands.

Husbands was suspended for using his helmet as a weapon, and Montpellier for attempting to retaliate while galloping out after the fourth race on Nov. 11.
