Woodbine: Jenna's Wabbit turns Achievement into one-horse show

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Monday’s $150,000 Achievement Stakes had been billed as a clash between Incredicat, who was favored at 4-5, and Jenna’s Wabbit, the 6-5 second choice. But it was Jenna’s Wabbit who provided all the fireworks as he bounced to the lead under regular rider Eurico Rosa da Silva and was never seriously threatened while leading throughout the six furlongs, with Incredicat giving game but futile chase.

“Rico had told me ‘Ralph, please don’t give me any instructions – just let me ride him the way I want to,’ ” said Ralph Biamonte, who conditions Jenna’s Wabbit for his wife, Mary Biamonte, and Danny Lococo. “He was very confident; he told me not to worry.”

Biamonte did worry. But Jenna’s Wabbit opened a three-length lead after a half-mile and finished 3 1/2 lengths ahead of runner-up Incredicat in the field of six Ontario-foaled 3-year-olds.

The stakes score was the fourth for Jenna’s Wabbit but his first outside the Ontario-sired ranks. The gelding’s $75,000 winner’s share of the Achievement purse boosted his bankroll to $387,179.

After winning the six-furlong Bull Page and the seven-furlong Frost King last year, Jenna’s Wabbit tried turf for first for the first time in his 3-year-old bow and won the six-furlong Bold Ruckus here June 9.

All remaining well, Jenna’s Wabbit will be looking to extend his streak in the $125,000 Deputy Minister, a seven-furlong race for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds here July 25.

“That’ll be fine,” said Biamonte, of the three-plus weeks to the Deputy Minister. “He’s a big horse; he rallies quickly. It won’t take him long to get back on his feet.”
