ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Indian Evening made an eye-catching move on the turn under Tyler Pizarro, en route to an convincing score in the $152,700 Swynford Stakes for 2-year-olds at Woodbine on Sunday.

Indian Evening raced five lengths in arrears in third on the backstretch of the seven-furlong sprint , as Buongiorno Johnny set splits of 22.87 and 45.67 seconds, while being pressed by Ocala Son. Indian Evening began to mount a wide rally heading into the turn, and then emerged with the lead near the eighth pole before pulling away to prevail by three lengths, in 1:22.57. Lockout, a promising maiden, finished 5 1/4 lengths clear of Ocala Son in second in the five-horse field.

Indian Evening ($3.60) collected $90,000 in his first stakes success for Vinery Stable and trainer Josie Carroll.

“I thought it set up beautifully,” said Carroll. “I could see Tyler get to work on him a little on the backside. He was loafing along a little bit, but this horse has a big kick, and when he did get in gear, he got in gear.”
