Woodbine Harness: Thursday 5/16 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (24 - 43 $83.50): SOCIAL SCENE (4th)

Spot Play: KINGSTON WHO (7th)

Race 1

This is a very lightly-raced group of horses, which makes it very tough to predict, but (5) CLASSIC KAZIMIR trotted his qualifier in 1:58 3/5 and displayed a very good final frame. That type of mile should be good enough to win at this bottom level. (7) NORTHERN BULLET posted an encouraging qualifier with a final quarter in a solid :27 3/5. He’ll make his first lifetime start and shows that he’s capable. (2) CANBEC KADENCE draws inside and will make his first start of the season. He comes out of the Demers barn, which has been very good this season. If he minds his manners, he’s a good option to consider.

Race 2

(2) MCGAIN N MCGAIN draws inside and was simply too far back last week. She remains at the same level, comes out of the Johnson barn and should be much better placed off the gate. (4) NOARTOGRAPHSPLEASE was assigned the outside post seven last week at Western Fair, but prior to that showed that she is very capable in this class. She finished second in this class two starts ago. (7) OH SO SWEET will make her first start of the season and posted a good qualifying effort. She posted a good record last season and appears to have come back well.

Race 3

(7) SHARPSHOT HALL raced well last week before tiring in deep stretch to finish second. He now ships onto this circuit and will make his second start of the season. He can only improve and has shown gate-speed and good manners. (1) WINBAK BLONDIE is a full sister to 2009 Horse of the Year Muscle Hill (1:50 1/5 - $3,318,682). If she can mind her manners, based on her breeding, she should be competitive in here. (9) UP FRONT N CRAZY shows terrific gate-speed and is fresh off a winning qualifier last week. I expect t see her speed put into play from post eight.

Race 4

Trainer Casie Coleman has now shipped north with her two and three-year-old pacers and they all appear in top form. I would believe that (2) SOCIAL SCENE is no different after a good qualifying effort. Coleman’s horses are always ready to win first start back. (3) R JOURNEY TOGETHER used her gate-speed in the qualifier along with a positive final frame. She draws inside and I feel she can only drop time in her first start. (1) STIRLING BELLA got away too far back last week and was full of pace in deep stretch. She draws much better than last week and should be better placed.

Race 5

(4) WONDERFUL CHARM provided a decent price en route to a tough-trip victory last week in this class. She draws well once again and gets Jamieson in the bike. (1) RACHEL WELCH is a good option to consider for the exactor. She draws inside and has been very competitive and consistent at this level. (6) LIFETIME JEWEL cleared to the lead down the stretch last week, but couldn’t hold on to win. She continues to improve and hasn’t missed the board in her last two starts, both in this class.

Race 6

(2) ARK WENT IN trotted a speedy 1:55 2/5 mile last week to finish second in this class. Any type of repeat effort and that should be good enough to win this week. (8) BETTY OOP hasn’t missed the board in her last three starts, which have all been in this class. She has gate-speed to be well positioned early and comes from a high percentage trainer. (9) I AM SPECIAL is fresh off a win in her first start of the season. I chose to use her for third based on her winning effort in a good time and by over 10 lengths.

Race 7

(2) KINGSTON WHO does move up in class, but she’s fresh off a win and this level isn’t much deeper in talent. She continues to improve with each start and this is only the third start of her campaign. (6) MACH AWAY has the gate-speed and if she’s not hard-used in the early going to be positioned, she’s very capable in this field. If (7) SCARLET STARLET utilizes her gate-speed, I like her chances to hit the board. Her race lines indicate that she races much better when she’s put into the race and that was displayed last week with a second place finish.

Race 8

This is a wide-open race, but (6) CASHEM IN is put back into a claimer and gets Jamieson in the bike. He’s very versatile and shows enough speed to win. I’m looking for value on him. (8) SPIKE HANOVER has been pacing in 1:53 and change and that type of performance should make him competitive. He’s back into a claimer and classified accordingly. (5) CREIGHTON HANOVER has been claimed in four of his last five starts and has hit the board in three of his last four starts. He draws well and has the gate-speed from post five.

Race 9

(5) ENOUGH ABOUT YOU has been knocking on the door and is due for his first win of the season. He draws well, has the gate-speed and was recently timed in 1:56 3/5. (7) POWER MOVE finished second last start after getting away ninth. He trotted home in :27 2/5 and likely won’t offer the same price as last week. He was very impressive last week in just his first start of the season. (9) SWEEPING VICTORY has proven to be very competitive in this class. He can get off-the-gate well, comes out of Johnson’s barn and minds his manners.

Race 10

(2) MARATOGA was the heavy favorite last week, but she had to settle for second. She draws well, shows terrific final quarters and this class isn’t deep in talent. (1) LARK SEELSTER has a very good record this season, but will need a trip. She’s not a big filly and likely will need a helmet for the best result. (8) PARADE ROUTE is fresh off a win and moves up in class. Austin’s barn has been very good this season and she has enough speed to be a threat in this non-winners-of-two class.

Race 11

This is a tough race to predict as there is no standout. (8) MODERN IMAGE will make her second start of the season after a third place finish last week. She can only be better this week and I’m looking for a price on her. (5) THREE HANDBAGS draws much better than last week. Moiseyev will likely aim to repeat his driving tactics. (6) HAPPY FEET TOO showed poor gate-speed last week and was a non-factor from post one. She showed a tremendous :25 2/5 final frame and if she can be positioned better, she’s a contender.

Race 12

(6) PACIFIC WARRIOR has been claimed in three of his last four starts and has a solid record this season. He was claimed for a higher price last week and is jammed into the bottom claiming level. Don’t overlook his five wins from 12 starts already this season. (3) INSPIRED ART has missed the board just once this season from five starts. He comes out of the Johnson barn, draws well and has terrific gate-speed. (1) NJS TRICK PISTOL doesn’t have the best gate-speed, but draws the rail. He has a reputation for being inconsistent, but I’m taking a chance and he should provide a high price.
