Woodbine Harness: Thursday 4/18 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (13 - 29 / $44.60): KENDRA HANOVER (2nd)

Spot Play: RACHEL WELCH (3rd)

Race 1

(7) MASSMANIAN DEVIL will make her first start of the season in this event after a very encouraging qualifier. She was scratched due to weather on April 11, but doesn't show making breaks and competed in some rich events last season. (6) P L FAIRLADY did all the work on the front last week before tiring in deep stretch. She draws well and I expect to see the same tactics used. (4) SIR WILLIAM moves into the Demers barn after racing at Rideau Carleton. She has hit the board in three of four starts this season and that should continue.

Race 2

(5) KENDRA HANOVER has won three straight and raced very well last week for first-time starter Allard. She draws well and I expect to see her gate speed again. (6) ONE MORE GINNY might need a start to find her ”A”  game, but based on what she did last year, she is very capable. She set a new lifetime best in her final start of the season and had a good qualifying effort over a track rated 'good.' (7) SHANTY IRISH wasn't overly impressive last week, but is back on the seven-day rotation and this marks her second start on this oval.

Race 3

(4) RACHEL WELCH is in a lighter field, draws well and raced very well in her first start of the season last week. She can only improve off that effort. (1) OZZIES FINALE finished second in this class last start and is a good option for the exactor. She draws well, raced well last week and comes out of the Gillis barn. (3) MACH AWAY put in a sub-par effort last week after going off as the favorite. I'm looking for a rebound effort from her.

Race 4

(5) HONOR BOY was tried in a conditioned event last start and failed to perform as expected, so he's classified accordingly this week. He draws in the middle of the gate and shows enough speed. (4) ELITE isn't very consistent, but at this level, he can't be counted out. He shows the gate-speed to be put into position in this wide-open field. (6) YS CHARLIE has a good record this season and wasn't in contention last start. If he's forwardly placed off the gate, I like his chances.

Race 5

(4) ENOUGH ABOUT YOU did all the work last week before tiring down the lane. He's lightly-raced this season and shows the gate speed to be involved early. He drops in class, which is a plus. (9) SWEEPING VICTORY has been racing consistently this season and shows enough speed to be a factor in this event. He also comes out of the Johnson barn and gets Waples. (8) MONEY MAVEN doesn't like to win but is a good option for the triactor. He posted a strong qualifier and appears to be on his game.

Race 6

(7) EXPRESS JET scored the victory in this class last week and once again remains a top contender. She draws post seven, has a good record this season and likely will be favored by many horseplayers. (9) BRAVEHEARTEDMILLIE has been racing very well and is always a threat in this class. She has finished second in her last three starts and can't be counted out at this level. (3) KEEP IT FAIR has posted three straight wins and moves up in class for Johnson. She draws well, enjoys being put in the race; capable.

Race 7

(2) BURSTIN BUBBLES posted a good qualifying effort last week and will make her 2013 debut for trainer Darling. I feel she's capable of winning first start back as she draws inside in this lighter field. (9) JAN IT JACKSON won at first asking last week at Flamboro and will move onto this circuit. With the right trip, I think she can be a factor and drop significant time. (1) GRAPHENE got interfered with and made a miscue last week. I feel she can hit the board and offer a price.

Race 8

(7) MUSCLE GEM remains undefeated in two starts in his career and remains at the same level as last week. He overcame post 10 last week and is the horse to beat. (3) BOCA BOCA draws inside, shows gate speed and has been producing fast enough miles to be a threat in this class. (9) BETTY OOP had some time off and posted a strong third place effort in her return to the track. She will have to overcome post nine, but is capable of hitting the triactor.

Race 9

(3) NOARTOGRAPHSPLEASE debuts for new trainer Shepherd, who's one of Canada's top trainers so far in 2013. She's back in the same class and will be considered a top contender by many. (2) DIRT TRACK MOMMA finished third in this class last week and adds Lasix this start. She draws well, enjoys being put in the race and comes out of the Montini barn. (4) FLYUSTOTHEMOON has finished in the top three in seven of 10 starts this season. She also draws well and has won three of her last four starts.

Race 10

(2) INTENSE AMERICA won the first division last week and draws better in here. She's a classy mare and is very versatile. (1) COOK OFF has a very good record this season and I think she'll only be better this week. She's back on the seven-day rotation and draws the rail. (3) SHEER GLIDE was timed in 1:56 last week and won in 1:54 the start before. She can't be counted out in this series for Zeron.

Race 11

(6) FRESH HERB used a :26 3/5 final frame last week to find the wire first. He remains at the same level, which is the main reason for my selection. (1) HIGHLAND HELLION has finished in the top three in five of his last six starts. He draws inside and comes out of the Moreau barn. (10) ROCK OF LUCK will have to overcome post 10, but is very capable. He's got a good record this season and won at this level two starts ago.
