Best Bet: WANAKA (8th)

Spot Play: DERIVATIVE (5th)

Race 1

(7) NEW STANDARD hung a bit late last week but just had too much ground to make up at the half. Expect a more forward placing early here. (6) HOWS MY DRIVING is the second foal to race out of a well-bred dam that was only a modest winner on the track. This one's final quarters signal readiness. (4) CENTURY CHURCHILL got closer last week and fired a decent final quarter. He might be set for a top try now making his 7th start.

Race 2

(4) DONTBRUISECARRIE won a leg of the Blizzard series, beating the eventual winner of the final that night. This is a big class drop for her and she will no doubt try to control things. (6) NOT NOW THEY SAID raced much better to break her maiden by leaving for a forward position early. She can threaten if given a similarly aggressive steer. (7) JENS CREDIT wasn't asked for much in her debut but should show improvement with that start under her belt.

Race 3

(9) ROCKY DE VIE comes up tagged here for a hot outfit and will no doubt be gunning for the front early; top call. (7) WIZARD OF OSNEY was an easy winner in this class last week and is the main threat. (5) MAGICAL PUMPKIN would be more dangerous here if he could land in the choice's pocket early, which is possible.

Race 4

(8) COTTONWOOD CREEK didn't get involved at all last week, but a 27 4/5 final quarter may have had something to do with her inability to close; giving her another try at a price. (3) TWIN B SWEETHEART exits the Blizzard series and is the obvious favorite. (1) MATTJESTIC TEMPO raced much better last week and should be used on Pick 4 and Pick 5 tickets.

Race 5

(7) DERIVATIVE just jogged last time he raced on the big track and A Mac will no doubt be sending; he should take this group a long way. (2) KADDY made a sharp move to the front on the backside then tired late. She's better racing off a helmet and should revert to that style here. (5) AMITYVILLE LINDY is the best closer here if he stays flat, which most times can be a big 'if' for him.

Race 6

(2) BIG BANG BOOM was out a long way before making front last week, which took its toll on him in deep stretch. He should get a better trip and result here starting from the inside. (9) GIOVANNI is racing very well and has no problem leaving from an outside post; using. (5) THREE TRUTHS faces easier here and must be considered.

Race 7

(4) VEGILANTE HANOVER went a big trip out the route last week from the 10-hole. He should get a much better trip here with the post relief. (5) MAJOR DAN comes up tagged for the first time and must be considered vs. this easier group. (1) SMALLTOWN TERROR beat similar at Flamboro and driver McClure has done well so far with limited opportunities at Woodbine.

Race 8

(5) WANAKA was an impressive maiden-breaker last time out and looks like a filly with lots of upside; call to repeat. (3) P L INDYANACA is only 1 for 24 but raced big last week from the 10-hole and could be closing in on that elusive second win now. (2) APRIL BREEZE ON BY won in a romp last week and wasn't even asked in the stretch. Her dramatic improvement is notable and should be considered.

Race 9

(5) PONDER THE DREAM was conservatively driven last week and when the final quarter was paced as quickly as the opening frame, she couldn't close much. More is expected now that she has had a taste of real competition. (6) INEXPLICABLE RUBY was first up in the same race and hung on decently. A better trip puts her right there. (4) SANDY DE VIE stopped in the lane as a big chalk last week. She could do better here off a covered-up trip.

Race 10

(6) SCARY HARRY fired sub-27 second kickers in both starts in the Snowshoe series and looks best here. Moiseyev should supply an aggressive steer. (1) MR DESTRUCTION powered up late to break his maiden and should be considered with the improvement he's been displaying. (3) ROCK THE DREAM was much closer than expected in the Snowshoe series last time and can grab a share here. (5) THINK AGAIN wired easier to break his maiden in his 23rd start last week. He can leave fast and stick around for a piece. (7) REGAL FAME took a shuffle then re-emerged late for a share; respect his consistency of late.
