Woodbine Harness: Thursday 12/20 Analysis

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: Special News (8th)

Spot Play: Final Curtian (5th)

Race 1

(3) MISS PANTHERS looks to be a top threat in here after her latest effort. She got a two-hole trip from post 10 and was beaten by just a nose. She draws inside and may offer a price. (6) DNIEPER has raced 22 times this season without a victory. I don’t think he can win, but should provide value and is worth a shot. (1) POLICYMAKER did all the work last week before fading to third. He draws much better and I’m looking for a better trip than the front-end.

Race 2

(1) YS GOLD STAR blasted to the front last week en route to victory. He was very aggressively driven by Filion. He draws inside and I expect the same tactics used at this same level. (6) THATS MARA has posted a pair of runner-up finishes and there’s no reason why she can’t do it again. (8) SAMILLION DOLLARS has finished fourth in her last three appearances. She’s got a decent record this season and it wouldn’t surprise me if she hit the board.

Race 3

(2) FIERY MANES has won five of eight starts this season and will shift to this circuit. Coming from the Henriksen barn, this horse will likely offer low value and be a major factor. Henriksen has tremendous success when bringing horses to Woodbine. (6) MAKING MAGIC made a break in his last start. He hasn’t raced since that start on Nov.20 which does worry me, but he’s got a lot of talent and should race well in here. (1) MONEY MAVEN doesn’t like to win, but is a good option to hit the board. He enjoys racing from behind and can be a factor at the top of the stretch.

Race 4

(6) MARQUISE DE SARAH has a start under her belt and showed a terrific final half in her debut to finish second. That sets her up well for this contest. (7) OLIVE THOMPSON has hit the board in four of her nine career starts and finished third at this level last week. (5) CHARDONAY SEELSTER has had some time off and appears fresh after an impressive qualifier.

Race 5

(3) FINAL CURTAIN has finished first and second in his last two starts at this level. He draws inside again and is certainly worth a look. He usually provides a price. (5) MY FELLA is the veteran of the field with a lot of back-class. He won at this level two starts ago from post nine. Don’t count him out. (10) WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN is always a threat when racing in this class. He has to overcome post 10, but shows in the past that he can do that.

Race 6

(1) BETTY OOP finished sixth in her latest outing but against a much tougher field. She shows enough trot, with a fast final quarter last start. If (4) FORK can behave himself, he is a major factor. His latest qualifying effort is encouraging. (2) COCO BINO posted a solid qualifying effort over at Mohawk. I think he can drop time and be a contender.

Race 7

(2) ELITE has been knocking on the door in his last pair of starts. He’s due for a win and is at a level where he is most competitive. (7) ST PETE STAR closed very well over Kawartha Downs to find the winner’s circle. I think he can make the transition to this oval. (6) BREW has a decent record this year and is at a level where he is competitive.

Race 8

(4) SPECIAL NEWS did all the work last week en route to victory. She scored a comfortable score and remains at the same class. (6) ABOVETHENORM finished second to SPECIAL NEWS last start and used a solid :27 4/5 final quarter. (3) LALKA has had a terrific 2012 season and a great on-the-board tally. She’s certainly worth a look.

Race 9

(5) RACHEL OLIVIA surprised some people last week with an impressive win. I think she can only get better and her record this season is nothing short of terrific. (3) MAMASAIDSO also has a great record this season and coming from the Coleman barn is something that any handicapper cannot overlook. (2) DOCS HOPE has been on the board in nine of 12 starts this season. She finished third in both of her last two starts and I think she can do it again against many of the same horses as last week.

Race 10

(7) AUTUMN SEELSTER is at a level where she is always a top threat. She won at this level last start and battled back to win after being surpassed in deep stretch. (8) JONNIE MACH has won three straight and deserves a try on this circuit. She’s hit the board in 17 of 34 starts this season. (1) JANIE BAY raced very well last week and made up countless ground. She may provide value as well.
