Woodbine Harness: Saturday 3/16 Analysis

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick-4 Pool

Best Bet (9 - 23 / $31.50): NOWUCIT NOWUDONT (3rd)     Spot Play: MONTE CRISTO (7th)

Race 1

(1) ROCINANTE didn't get the best steer last week and now gets the services of Jamieson. The last time this horse won was at this level with Jamieson driving. (5) FULL CIRCLE KING did all the work on the front last week before tiring in deep stretch. He still managed to finish third, while providing high odds. He draws inside again and I like his chances if he's pushed off-the-gate. (4) WINDSUN THUNDER went a respectable mile considering it was his first start back after a long layoff. He finished his mile with his ear plugs still in and I think he's a contender, while likely providing high value.

Race 2

(5) MEGO MOSS raced from behind last week and did race well to finish third with a solid final quarter. In this short field, think he'll be forwardly-placed off-the-gate and likely on the front. He's proven to be very competitive in this class with a terrific record this season. (6) WINDSUN GALLIANO moves onto this circuit and into the Gillis barn. He's won three of seven starts this season and is fresh off a very good qualifying effort. (1) MIKESBROTHERFRANK moves up in class after a win and draws inside. He's been very consistent this season and enjoys racing from behind.

Race 3

(8) NOWUCIT NOWUDONT was my best bet last week and it will be once again. He was very impressive last start and cruised to victory very comfortably. (4) VIMY RIDGE has been very competitive and is a good option to consider for the exactor. He's finished in the top three in five of his last six outings. (3) HOLY HALIBUT was able to shake loose late last week, but it was too late to track down the winner NOWUCIT NOWUDONT. He's also been very competitive in this class with his consistent record.

Race 4

(1) WORLD AWAY gets significant class relief and won at this level two starts ago. He draws inside and I hope his gate-speed comes into play. (5) ROCK ME PLEASE raced very well last start and comes out of the McIntosh barn. He'll likely draw a lot of attention once again. (6) RUSH RULES didn't race last year due to injury and has been knocking on the door in his last number of starts. His 1:52 3/5 effort last week is very encouraging.

Race 5

(7) ROCKYS FIRST wasn't been racing at his best recently, but he drops down in class and is at a level where I think he can win. He also gets Jamieson's services, which I consider a plus. (4) AQUANILLA has finished second in three of his last four starts. Regardless of what class he's in, with the correct drive, he usually puts forth a very good effort. (9) WINDSONG HERCULES closed very well last start considering he had the nine hole. He once again draws outside and has a great closing kick.

Race 6

(6) CHEYENNE MOISHE was hard-used to earn the front last week through quick fractions and was only beaten by a head for the win. He put forth a terrific effort considering the trip he went and I think he'll likely be the post time favourite. (8) JJ SHARK has been racing well since his return and has produced solid final quarters. He's certainly a threat at this level and I think he can step up even more. (9) SKY DESPERADO raced terrific last start considering he made a break behind the gate and rebounded to finish second. He does move up in class, but I was very impressed with him last week.

Race 7

(1) MONTE CRISTO will be my spot play of the evening. He finally draws inside and should be better placed off-the-gate than in recent weeks. If he's within striking distance at the top of the stretch, he's got a great closing kick. (7) MACHS BEACH BOY drops in class and won at this level two starts ago. Trainer Shakes' barn has been very good this season and this horse has a very good chance of being top three. (8) GRIN FOR MONEY has disappointed me in recent weeks. He's a much better horse than he's been showing, but he's a logical pick to be a part of the triactor in this class.

Race 8

(8) MODERN LEGEND hasn't raced since Feb. 23 and will look for his first win of the season. He took on North America's best in the Presidential at The Meadowlands and I think he's capable of handling this class. (9) SING FOR ME GEORGE has been very consistent this season and has proven to be able to overcome outside post positions. He raced very well last week in this class and I expect much of the same. (1) TOP GEAR is capable of hitting the board, but I think he'll need the right trip. He draws inside and may provide a price.

Race 9

(3) GD AIRLINER does move up in class, but he's very capable after his very impressive win last week. He comes out of the Allard barn, draws inside and is a three-time winner from seven starts this season. (2) SPEED AGAIN hasn't won yet this season, but he drops down in class after finishing third last week at a higher level. He draws inside and is a big threat in here. (5) TWIN B IMPRESSIVE was scored three wins in his last four starts and at this level he's a 'must have' on your triactor selections. He's been very consistent with a good on-the-board record this season.

Race 10

(7) MIDNITE ROMP was assigned post 10 last week and the week prior he didn't get the best trip. I feel he's very competitive in this class, given the right trip and he likely will provide a price in here. (6) CAMS TUX debuts for new trainer Frey and this horse moves into a condition event and I feel he can handle it, given it's the bottom class. He shows enough speed and is worth a look. (8) CHASIN RACIN got a terrific two-hole trip last start and was unable to wear down the tempo-setter. At this level, he's a logical choice to consider for the triactor, but I'm not convinced he can win from post nine.

Race 11

(3) GOBAN gets significant class relief and should be able to handle this bottom class. He's not on his game right now and I'm looking for a better effort from him. He draws inside and likely won't offer much value. (6) BEST EARS debuts for new trainer Fine and this horse shows enough speed to be a threat in here, but he will have to step up his game. He tends to be inconsistent. (5) ROCK ON MOE has a pair of starts under his belt since a layoff and I think he can drop time. I'm looking for a better effort as he draws in the middle of the gate.
