Woodbine Harness: Saturday 12/27 analysis

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: CHARMED LIFE (2nd)

Spot Play: P L HURRICANE (8th)

Race 1

(4) RECKON IM READY has hit the board in two of his last three starts, comes from the Baillargeon barn and draws in the middle of the gate. (2) LETS LEAVEM hit the board last week in this class at 16-1 and is capable of another strong effort. (6) CHUCKALO CADEN will get Jody Jamieson back in the bike and that's the main reason why I'm selecting him in the top three.

Race 2

(3) CHARMED LIFE will be the overwhelming favourite again this week following her back-to-back wins at this Preferred level. (7) DAYLON MAGICIAN has been a main threat at this Preferred level for many weeks and finished second last week behind Charmed Life. (6) CHARLIE IS A JOKER has been putting up a double digit price as of late and has been rising to the occasion for trainer Ben Baillargeon and driver Mike Saftic.

Race 3

(8) WOODMERE TRULYBLUE was terrific last start with an open length score at this level for trainer Richard Moreau. (9) MAJOR HANGOVER has all kinds of speed for this level, but can't seem to finish off her miles. (1) DEUCES FOR CHARITY draws the rail and comes from the Kelly Goodwin barn.

Race 4

(3) THEPANINSULAHOTEL disappointed last week at a low price and will look to find his best stride in here. (4) UFDRAGONS ROCKET rallied well last week to close from eighth-to-second with a :27 1/5 final quarter for driver Anthony MacDonald. (1) MONTE CRISTO draws the rail in here and raced very well two starts back in this class when the gelding finished fourth, but only defeated by a length.

Race 5

(4) SLIP INTO GLIDE gets significant class relief and that alone should put him in the winner's circle. (8) SAMIRA HANOVER has all kinds of gate-speed to offer and the talented mare shows the speed to be a main threat at this level. (3) KINETIC KING has developed a patented late kick and an inside post should benefit him well for trainer/driver Roger Mayotte.

Race 6

(1) NIRVANA SEELSTER wasn't able to overcome post 10 last start, but this week might be a different story with the rail. (2) BUGGER BRUISER tried to go gate-to-wire last week and settled for second, beaten by a length and a half. (9) SI SEMALU probably has the quickest gate-speed of any of his rivals and he will need it from a post nine start. He's posted wins in two of his last three starts and three of his last five.

Race 7

(7) CAMAES FELLOW suffered a tough trip last week as the six-year-old pocket-pulled on Modern Legend en route to three-quarters in 1:21.4/5. I expect a better finish out of him in here. (2) AVATARTIST raced well last week as the four-year-old received an inside trip en route to finishing third for driver and co-owner Mike Saftic. (3) KG DRAGONATOR is a price option in this dash and I'm going to include him for the triactor as the four-year-old also drops in class this week.

Race 8

(8) P L HURRICANE raced accordingly last week from an outside post as the sophomore filly went to the back and rallied strongly to finish fourth in this class. (5) TOTAL LEE went a big trip last week in my opinion as the Hoosier Park invader finished second in this class. (10) BADLANDS LOVE was classified accordingly last week by trainer Richard Moreau and the result was a victory with driver Sylvain Filion in the bike.

Race 9

(7) ADKINS HANOVER drops into this lower level as trainer Richard Moreau puts him in for a claiming tag. (6) ER ZACH ATTACK has been a recent addition into the Tony O'Sullivan barn and the four-year-old has posted a win and third-place finish in both outings. (3) DINNER AT THE MET has been competing at a different level in each of his last four starts, but will give this class a try for trainer Nicole Lariviere.

Race 10

(5) RESISTANCE FUTILE has been a mystery horse all season following a terrific sophomore campaign last year with $238K earned. (7) MUSSELSFRMBRUSSELS has all kinds of back class to offer and is fresh off a second-place finish to Resistance Futile. (2) DONAU has been racing very consistently as of late for trainer Carmen Auciello as the gelding has hit the board in five of his last six starts.

Race 11

(3) VIP BAYAMA was my top selection last week and was rewarded nicely with a $40.60 return. (7) TAKE THE DEAL went a big mile last week considering he was parked out at the opening quarter then first-over around the three-quarter pole. (2) GLAMMIT has been a different horse since the addition of lasix for trainer Carmen Auciello.

Race 12

(8) RAMBLINGAMBLINMAN exploded from the backfield last week to capture the victory in 1:52 3/5 for driver/trainer Rick Zeron. (3) TIGHTEN UP draws inside for trainer Tony O'Sullivan and will get Jody Jamieson back in the bike this week. (1) A BOY NAMED SUUZZ continues to offer a fair price while racing at this level and is worth a look.
