Woodbine Harness: Monday 12/17 Analysis

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: MICA HANOVER (4th)

Spot Play: COLLEGE MAJOR (11th)

Race 1

(4) PASS THE DEUCE has been racing very well lately and returns to the claiming ranks. He's been racing in condition classes lately and finishing his miles strongly. He may offer value with his solid record this season. (3) TERCO CORAZON made an uncharacteristic break last week, but I'm going to overlook that. He returns to the claiming ranks and should be considered a top threat. (5) DANIEL SEMALU finished fourth at this level last week, beaten just two lengths for the win. He draws well in a short field and I feel he can improve while likely providing value.

Race 2

(7) AUTUMN GOTTEM must have had an issue with him as he put forth an uncharacteristic effort last start. I believe O'Sullivan will have the problem rectified and I'd expect another top effort. (3) JJ SHARK lit up the toteboard in his latest start with an impressive victory. I think he can put forth another terrific effort as he showed terrific final quarter speed for trainer Hamilton. (1) BOXCAR has won 11 of 16 starts this season and missed the board only twice. He's got the rail and can't be counted out.

Race 3

(5) GENESEE finished fourth last week, but raced very well with a :26 4/5 final quarter. This is a lighter field than last week and I think he can show a better effort. (8) JOHNNY PRINE TYME hasn't been beaten in three career starts and moves to this oval. He shows enough speed and with Jamieson aboard only increases his chances. (7) BLUE CHIP SUNSHINE has been racing much better in his last two starts. He may offer value and is certainly worth a look.

Race 4

(9) MICA HANOVER did all the work last start to score a comfortable win. At this level, I think he can overcome the outside post. (1) POP COP didn't overly impress me last week with his effort. I felt he should have won off the fractions, but he tired late. He's a good option to have for second with his talent and speed. (3) LONG FIGHT HANOVER is a mystery horse to me. I can't predict what type of effort he's going to give. He shows enough speed to be a threat in here, but I think a lot will depend on the trip.

Race 5

(2) DELCREST JULIAN raced extremely well for first-time starter Moreau last week. He was third-over turning for home and exploded in deep stretch. He should be able to win in here as he slightly moves up in class. (1) ROCKYS FIRST gets the return of Jamieson behind the bike. He finished second last week to DELCREST JULIAN and I think he can do it again. He starts from the same post. (8) VACATION DAY finished third to both DELCREST JULIAN and ROCKYS FIRST last start. I'm looking for an identical triactor as last week.

Race 6

(2) GREYSTONE LADYLIKE scored a comfortable win last week against many of the same rivals. She draws well and with the correct trip, I don't think they can out-sprint her turning for home. (7) OCEANVIEW BINDI captured the other division last week and is a top threat in here. She used a sizzling :27 final quarter to win and that shouldn't be overlooked. (1) APACH OF LUCK raced very well for first-time starter Menary last week. I think she can only get better off that effort.

Race 7

(7) GEORGE JETTISON is certainly due for a win and this is a light field of horses. He raced well last week to finish second and with a repeat effort, I think he can win. (9) CAMCRUISER HANOVER raced very well in his first career start for Hudon. I'm not sure if he can win in his second start, but he's a good option for triactor/exactor wagers. (3) DREYDL HANOVER moves into the Remmen barn and his barn has improved over the past few weeks. This horse continues to get cheques and is due to step up.

Race 8

(9) GARETH NOURRIR has had a terrific 2012 campaign and this might be his toughest test. He moves into the Valedictory and has post nine to deal with. His recent 1:52 win makes him a deserving candidate to be in here. (5) BJS GUY raced very well to finish third last week and I think he'll only be better this week. This marks the second time he'll race on this surface. (2) P L FIGHTER finished fourth last week and I think he can improve. This division isn't as tough as the other one.

Race 9

(7) GROOM HANOVER gets major class relief and should capitalize. He's the horse to beat in here, in my opinion. (5) MEADOWVIEW MATTY has won two-straight races and has won convincingly. He steps up in class and it appears his best stride comes on the front. He's a good option to have on all wagers. (3) JULIANS CAESAR has terrific gate-speed and that likely will get used from post three. He's been very competitive at this level and that likely will continue again in here.

Race 10

(5) SKY DESPERADO won by a nose last week and begins from a good post at the same level. He's won three of his last five starts. (7) P J LUCKY might be considered a longshot, but he's always in the hunt and when he's beat, it's by a very small margin. He's worth a shot. (3) SURVIVAL GUIDE has been nothing but terrific for his new connections since the claim. He moves up in class and onto this circuit and I think he's ready for the task.

Race 11

(4) COLLEGE MAJOR finally draws inside and I think Jamieson will make the most of that opportunity. He may offer value, but he's at a level where he can win and I expect him to be forwardly-placed off the gate. (6) FANTASTIC ROCK posted a decent mile in his return with a credible final quarter. He adds lasix and I think he can improve off last week. (8) ANNUITY has proven to hit the board numerous times in the past at this level. This race could provide a great return.
