Woodbine Harness: Horses to watch from February 28 - March 4

Email

Thursday, February 28

WILDCAT HANNA (NW1FM) Yielded twice, sat pocket, chased the top two all out but at 9-1 was only third best but should be able to notch a win soon.

STRAWBERRY WINE (NW2) Got shuffled in the last turn and lost best chance. Closed well and outkicked the favorite for second.

GENTLEMAN FRIEND (CLM8000) Was caught behind weak cover, came wide, got stuck out there too long but game out 2nd off the tough trip.

RASHABEC (CLM10000) Was hard to put in the pocket and raced half in, half out a long way before finally having to commit to uncovered, challenged to the lane, flattened and was wiped out by a bullish pocket horse.

Friday, March 1

CAJON HOT SHOT (CLMHCP15/20000) Finished full of pace from a distant third over and has to be respected in next race or two.

BACKBUCKBUCK MACH (CLM8000) Trailed to the lane, flashed good speed to pass a few rivals and earns a look against same kind.

MONTENEGRO (NW14000FM) Sat a tight pocket early stretch, escaped and closed well at 89-1.

GREYSTONE LADYLIKE (PRFFM) Chased the favorite home with good speed and should be along in time next out.

Saturday, March 2

ST LADS ZOOM ZOOM (NW3) Left in first turn traffic, took back, settled to a tuck, pulled with cover to the half, came wide as cover tired, rallied gamely while on the right lane and can win again if anything goes right.

IDEAL RACE (NW8100) Left, took the lead, yielded and was shuffled, tipped into traffic in a tightly bunched field heading home, got blindswitched, never cleared and deserved a better fate.

DRAIN DADDY (NW16000) Came wide into the stretch with good rally but it was too late. Beaten favorite closed fastest of all and earns another chance.

HOLY HALIBUT (NW4) Yielded twice to finally sit pocket to the odds-on favorite and chased him home second best on the course and on the board.

Monday, March 4

DOLCE DUCCI (CLMHCP10/12000) Went down the road as far as he could in last and was nailed on the wire and could be a major factor once more.

FRENCHFRYSNVINEGAR (PRF) Trotted up a storm in front end effort missing only a neck when the pocket horse found late clearance.

BLUE SKY AGAIN (CLM15000) Left and was absolutely brutalized getting parked threee-wide for what seemed like eternity before finally caving in nearing the third panel. Better racing luck would definitely enhance his chances.

CAM EAST (CLM8000) Looked highly revved up in last. Left, settled for an eary tuck but pulled off the turn, rushed up, challenged strongly but the speed refused to give it up. Pressed to mid lane before going down.
