Woodbine Harness: Friday 5/3 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (17 - 34 / $56.20): APOLLO BLUE CHIP (5th)

Spot Play: ROCK OF LUCK (6th)

Race 1

(3) CHARMED LIFE was very impressive in her debut last week and although she does move up in class, I feel she can handle the transition. She has the gate-speed, talent and showed a solid final quarter last week en route to victory. (1) WINDSONG INVINCEBL draws inside and has been very consistent in this class. She's got a good record this season and has been knocking on the door in this class. (7) SEE R CHIN WIN has finished second in both of her outings in this class. She draws better than last week and is a top threat to hit the board.

Race 2

(9) FIRST IMPRESSION moves into the Fine barn after a third place effort last week. He remains at the same class that he's been very competitive at and has a terrific win percentage this season. (5) SHIPPS XPECTANCY has terrific gate-speed to be well positioned early in the mile. He's hit the board in each of his last five starts and that cannot be overlooked. (4) ARDYNE ACE did all the work last week en route to victory. He draws well and was very impressive last week setting a new lifetime best.

Race 3

(8) BOOGIE WOOGIE came first-over last week and tired late in the stretch. Two starts ago, Oliver had a big hold on him at the top of the stretch before he made an uncharacteristic break. If he gets the right trip, I like his chances. (5) WINE PHOTO likely should offer a price based on his record so far this season, but he raced very well in his most recent outing. He overcame post 10 and was hard-used early in the mile and finished his mile very well to finish second. (3) SCARY GOOD continues to improve and raced well last start. He showed a good final frame and I think he'll be even better this week.

Race 4

(6) HIGHLAND BOREAS gets significant class relief and found the winner's circle the last time he was in this class. He's very versatile and I wouldn't expect to see a high price on him. (3) POPPYS BUCKY BOY draws well and is put into a class where he's most competitive at. He certainly has enough speed and I think he'll offer a price. (2) CREIGHTON HANOVER has been claimed in three of his last four starts. He's right back in at the same level and has proven to be very competitive and consistent in this class.

Race 5

(7) APOLLO BLUE CHIP did most of the work on the front last week to score the win for first time trainer Fine. He's back at the same level, has gate-speed along with a terrific record this season. (1) BIG PAYOUT draws inside, has gate speed and if he's not used too hard in the early going, he's capable of being a part of the exactor.  (4) SELFISH PRINCESS is a longshot play, but when she's on her game, she's very competitive in this field. She draws inside although she hasn't raced since April 5th, with the right trip I think she can hit the board.

Race 6

(1) ROCK OF LUCK went a tough trip last week, got parked out, and still scored the win in convincing fashion, while providing a good price. He moves up in class, draws the rail, comes out of the Allard barn and I feel he can score the win again. (7) EVENING JOB is on a two-race win streak and won in this class last week. He's been top two in four of his last five outings. (4) SHIFTIN GEARTOGEAR draws much better than last week and remains at the same class. I would assume MacDonald will put him into the race like last week. I feel he's at his best when he's put into the race early.

Race 7

(5) SEASCAPE HANOVER came first-over in her most recent before getting picked off at the wire. She remains at the same level and has finished first and second in her last two starts, while in this class. (1) BRUSHSTROKES draws inside and gets class relief. She has proven to be very competitive at this level and is a top threat, in my opinion. (4) STAGE IT RIGHT came from off-the-pace last week to finish a strong third. She draws inside and has a terrific closing kick.

Race 8

(6) HERO OF MY DREAMS was impressive last week considering it was his first start back after a minor layoff. He came first-over and was only beaten by a nose for the win. (5) STRAWBERRY WINE put in a sub-par effort last week, but prior to that effort, she has been very consistent in this class. She has gate-speed and I would expect to see her put into play early. (3) VALDABRO draws inside and is down in class. He doesn't have the best record, but if he gets the right trip, he's has enough speed to hit the board.

Race 9

(5) HOPE FOR PADDY will make her second start of the season and drops out of the Preferred. She gets significant class relief and should be much better in her second start. (8) MEMUMSNOTNICE comes out of the Johnson barn, which cannot be overlooked, and has terrific gate-speed. Waples will likely utilize that and put her into the race early. (7) DELICIOUSLYNAUGHTY has hit the board in three of her last four starts. She'll need a trip, but she comes out of the Gillis barn and was timed in 1:52 last week.

Race 10

(5) DREAMFAIR ECLIPSE is a top threat in this class if she doesn't get away too far back. She has a terrific closing kick and if big fractions are presented, it only increases her chances. (6) MIA SEELSTER will add lasix for the second start and did all the work last week before tiring down the stretch. She's not at her best on the front, but with a clean trip, she's very capable in this field. (9) CHARDONAY SEELSTER is a terrific option to consider for the triactor even with a post nine start. She has gate-speed and had been the picture of consistency in recent starts.

Race 11

(8) ROCA REI moves back onto this circuit after a victory at Western Fair and Moreau has a great reputation for bringing horses from other circuits onto this one and finding the winner's circle at first asking. This is another example and she may provide a price. (6) MY GAL MATTIE drops in class and at this level, she's certainly a top threat. She has gate-speed and won at a higher level earlier in the year. (9) HIGHLAND CANDY BAR might be considered a longshot play, but she's had time off and debuts for new trainer Fine. She'll likely offer a price and posted a good qualifying effort coming into this race.

Race 12

(8) LOST IN PANSLATION came from far back last week before finishing third. He drops in class, comes out of the Moreau barn and has been very consistent in recent starts. He's been top three in five of his six last outings. (7) KEYED ENTRY is a longshot play, but he raced very well last week considering he was eighth at the half. He used a good final quarter to finish third. (3) JERSEY JOE moves onto this circuit after a win at Flamboro. He draws well, has gate-speed and I expect him to be well positioned early.
