Woodbine Harness: Friday 1/16 Analysis

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: BAGS FOR ALL (1st)

Spot Play: YS LOTUS (5th)

EARLY $1 PICK 4 PLAY (Race 4):

1,4 / 4,5,10 / 1,6,7 / 1,5,6 = $54

Race 1

(8) BAGS FOR ALL is one of many recent winners that trainer Cirasuolahas shipped north ready for action. This one destroyed his foes despite missing a month and a repeat at a low price seems likely. (4) CLIMB HIGHER was stickhandling his way through the field last week but ran out of racetrack late. Respect his sharpness. (3) CASH FOR GOLD has missed more than a month's action but his recent win certainly points to him as one of the ones. Beware taking a short price off that break, though.

Race 2

(2) MARQUISE DE SARAH shoots for a Grand Slam here and off last week's powerful win is tough to go against. (6) DGS PESQUERO has been driven hard early by Drury both times he has piloted her with mixed results. A more patient approach here could see her completing the exacta. (5) PUTMEINTOGO had the choice's cover throughout last week but lost ground in the stretch; another minor award is likely here.

Race 3

Both (5) SEAWIND PASCALE and (3) ABC MUSCLES BOY just barely squeak into this race based on their earnings. We'll side with the former who seems to be improving rapidly with Zeron at the controls. The latter had some trouble gaining when sent first-up by Hudon last week and didn't seem to have his usual pop. Maybe the wet track had something to do with that. (4) DREAMFAIR BOGART rarely wins but is handy enough to round out the exotics. (8) HELD IN BALANCE kicked in with a nice closing brush very late a week ago. He too can contend.

Race 4

(4) RUB N TUG has been an infrequent winner but was clearly blocked in the lane last week with pace. She picks up Filion tonight which should produce a better result. (1) JANIE BAY ships in from New Jersey for leading trainer Auciello and will take plenty of action at the windows. She fits here and is on our pick 4 tickets but the gap in action may be her undoing. (2) CALL IT COURAGE closed nicely in her return race but seems more suited for a minor share than taking the top prize.

Race 5

(4) YS LOTUS was forced to make his move and fire off a rapid 3rd quarter in a race filled with early action last week in which deep closers dominated the top spots. He can rebound at a much better price here. (5) A BOY NAMED SUUZZ was 2nd in the same dash but clearly benefitted from the choice's good cover. (10) WHISTLE JIMMY K likely made the Final of this series with last week's win and may be driven conservatively from the 10-hole here. (6) CREDIT REFUSAL was the only horse noticeably closing ground on the leader last out; he is useable at a price in here.

Race 6

(6) SOUTHWIND TERROR got too far back early last time to make a big impact late. Expect A-Mac to keep him closer and move him earlier; top call. (7) ELECTRIFY lived up to his name winning at a big price for Drury last week. He is the one to knock off. (1) LIKEAVIRGIN finally gets an inside post and is a threat to make a big brush on the backside and play “come and catch me”.

Race 7

(1) RAMBLINGAMBLINMAN went a huge first-up trip last Friday and was game right to the wire. A repeat performance sees him greeting the photographer. (6) AMERICAN ISLAND was sent right down the road by Henry and only overtaken very late. He is the main danger. (5) NEWBIE closed impressively and proved he belongs on the big circuit first time over Woodbine. Don't discount too quickly.

Race 8

(3) MISS COCO LUCK was used hard in the 3rd quarter by Allard to make front and his aggression was almost rewarded with a victory. Back in the same class this mare gets top call tonight. (5) RADAR CONTACT proved last summer that she is a potent closer on her best day. One of these times the connections are going to revert to that racing style and she is going to blow by them like a streak in the lane; maybe tonight. (8) TRUE REFLECTION seems to race better in winter and although she steps back up off a win she is a threat here. (2) MISTRESSTOTHESTARS has improved dramatically with Henry at the controls and should hit the ticket again.

Race 9

(9) KINDOFABIGDEAL was perfectly tripped out to win by Filion last week to take one of the opening legs of the series. He is quite capable of making his own luck, however, and should be tough to beat here. (3) TURBO MACH put in a big speed try off a 25-day break and was only two lengths short of the choice. He has a puncher's chance of knocking him off tonight. (6) DECISIVE DESTINY powered away to a big win last out but was one of few live horses turning home in a race filled with action on the front end. He is likely to be overbet off that open-length win. (7) PL HEAVENLY was skippy around the final turn and the early part of the lane last week; approach with caution.

Race 10

(2) DIANNA SANTANNA had too far to come last week after following bad cover. Jamieson wrapped her up when a clear third late. She should be much closer to the pace early here. (1) PAID IN CASH went a long mile in the slop last out and predictably tired late. She can rebound here. (4) NINE LIVES HANOVER showed some life last week and may be rounding back to top form again; upset potential.

Race 11

(7) TOTAL LEE was stalled behind terrible cover but exploded down the lane to win comfortably last week. Call to repeat off that impressive effort. (5) DOUBLE JOY beat the choice when last seen but also rode the rail until late in the mile. (1) PALM BEACH had good late energy for 2nd and is a good bet to make the top three again. (2) WANNA ROCK N ROLL has won two of her last three but the waters get deeper here as she faces a couple that will be tough to beat. (5) BADLYINCLINED hasn't missed a check in her last 5 and is a good one to include on your Super Hi-5 tickets.
