ETOBICOKE, Ontario—Trainer Ralph Biamonte won the $125,000 Frost King Stakes for the third time at Woodbine Saturday with the favored Flashy Margaritta.

Flashy Margaritta went right to the front and set an opening quarter of 23.28 in the seven-furlong test for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds, with Spin the King tracking him. Flashy Margaritta opened up a clear lead at the quarter pole, and then coasted home on top by a length and a half over Spadina Road, in 1:23.77.

Iron Wolf checked in third in a field reduced to seven with the scratches of Hope for Fame, Figy’s Mobil Pride, and Bandamba.

Patrick Husbands rode Flashy Margaritta ($5.30) for owners Mary Biamonte and Danny Lococo.

“[Everyone] thought speed wasn’t holding,” said Husbands. “But I knew if I could get an easy quarter, there’s no way they’d beat him coming home. And that’s how the race went.”

Flashy Margaritta is a half-brother to the Biamonte-trained Citius, who captured the 2010 Frost King. Jenna’s Wabbit won the race for Biamonte in 2011.
