Jockey Todd Kabel won the $100,000 Hill 'N' Dale Stakes for the third straight year at Woodbine aboard New York import Flaming Heart. Flaming Heart stalked three wide throughout the 1 1/16-mile event, and then held off 26-1 shot Colonial Surprise in deep stretch to win by a half-length. Ballroom Deputy was third in the five-horse field of fillies and mares. She was followed by the 1-2 favorite, Gold Strike, who faded in the final furlong after setting moderate fractions. "I was fighting my filly a little bit throughout the race," said Kabel. "At one point, going into the last turn, I thought I was all finished, but her class showed up, and she dug in gamely." Flaming Heart, trained by Brian Lynch, returned $5.80 as the second choice. She completed the distance in 1:44.45 seconds, earning $60,000 for Stronach Stable. The owners of the first three finishers received a season to one of three stallions standing at Hill 'N' Dale Farm in Kentucky: El Corredor, Stormy Atlantic and Candy Ride.
