Woodbine: Embur's Song mows 'em down in Hendrie

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Kentucky shipper Embur’s Song ($7.50) parlayed an ideal stalking trip into an authoritative score Saturday at Woodbine in the Grade 3, $182,500 Hendrie Stakes.

In the driving rain, Wildcat Marie and Dr. Zic linked up on the early lead of the 6 1/2-furlong Hendrie, as Embur’s Song raced four length back during an opening quarter in 22.29 seconds. Wildcat Marie opened up a clear advantage on the turn, getting the half in a rapid 44.87.

Embur’s Song began to make up ground exiting the turn, and then mowed down Wildcat Marie at the eighth pole before drawing clear for a 3 1/2-length win, in a time of 1:15.01. Ariana D, the 2-1 favorite, rallied wide for second, and Wildcat Marie faded to third in the seven-horse field.

Patrick Husbands rode Embur’s Song, who collected $120,000 for Fares Farm and trainer Todd Pletcher.

“As they left the gate, the first three strides, she relaxed,” said Husbands. “It was setting up for me. I just tipped her to the outside, and she just cruised from there.”
