Delegation ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:01.51 to win the Dominion Day Stakes on Monday and break the Woodbine track record for the distance on Polytrack.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Delegation shattered Woodbine's 10-furlong Polytrack record with a decisive victory in the 61st running of the $152,100 Dominion Day Stakes on holiday Monday.

Delegation ($4.50) went right to the front and was hounded by Perfect Afleet through moderate early fractions in the Grade 3 fixture. He assumed command through three-quarters in 1:13.34 and then drew off to score by 9 1/4 lengths over James Street, who edged out Alpha Bettor for second.

The final time of 2:01.51 was 0.48 seconds lower than the previous record set by Strait of Dover in last year’s Queen’s Plate.

Delegation’s romp was the fourth winner on the card for jockey Luis Contreras, who got a leg up from trainer Mark Casse.

“He has just an unbelievable stride,” Casse said. “When this horse is on his game, he’s probably as good a horse as I’ve ever trained.”

Delegation, easily the best horse at Woodbine, earned $90,000 for owner Gary Barber.
