ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Blue Heart ($10.80) held off lukewarm favorite Spirited Miss to take the $232,600 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday. Daddy’s Jewel set a quick pace in the 1 1/16-mile route for 2-year-old fillies as Blue Heart raced in a four-wide stalking position under Joe Bravo. Blue Heart joined Daddy’s Jewel up front on the far turn and then assumed command in the stretch before scoring by a head over a charging Spirited Miss. Solid Appeal finished another length back in third, a length in front of a closing Sky High Lady. The final time was 1:44.86. Blue Heart, who banked $150,000 for Mr. and Mrs. John Amerman, won her only other start in a six-furlong maiden special for trainer Brian Lynch. “She always trained like she’d get the two turns,” Lynch said. “She got a little tired late, but she deserved to. We’ll look for bigger and better things down the road for next year.”
