ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Bear It’s Time ($3.80) parlayed an ideal stalking trip into a decisive score in the $125,000 Lady Angela Stakes on holiday Monday at Woodbine.

Robnpetertopaypaul set a tepid early pace with a strong wind at her back in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies. Sinister Quill pressed the leader along the inside, and was steadied at the three-eighths pole, while Bear It’s Time tracked them on the outside.

Jockey Luis Contreras set Bear It’s Time down at the head of the stretch, and she responded with a powerful kick that led to a 5 1/4-length win, in a time of 1:21.88. The previously unbeaten Sinister Quill finished second, and Robnpetertopaypaul faded to third in a field reduced to five with the late scratch of Classy Katherine.

Bear It’s Time banked $75,000 in her season debut. She wasn’t nominated to the race, but trainer Reade Baker said he decided to supplement her after she began to work forwardly under Contreras.

“When he came over to work her, she just blossomed,” said Baker. ‘I love off-the-pace riders, and he’s a very good one.”
