ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Bear’s Peak wore down favored Jenna’s Wabbit in deep stretch to take the $125,800 Overskate Stakes at Woodbine Saturday.
Second choice Royal Egbert set moderate fractions of 22.86 and 45.24 seconds while being pressed by Jenna’s Wabbit in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired stock. Jenna’s Wabbit assumed command from a fading Royal Egbert early in the stretch, before giving way to Bear’s Peak, who scored by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:22.46.
Justin Stein rode Bear’s Peak for the Bear Stable and trainer Reade Baker.
“It was a beautiful trip - ideal, really,” said Stein. “Those two guys went at it hard early, and I was all by myself in third, watching them go. My horse was nice and settled, and I had a lot of horse when it came time to do some serious running. He’s got a tremendous kick down the lane.”
Bear’s Peak returned $14.40 and earned $75,000.
Courtville rallied for third at 7-1, and 54-1 outsider Bug’s Boy completed a superfecta worth $2,260.60.

GLASS ART sure looks well spotted for his first start since November, as he lands in a grass route that's decidedly short on speed, and he gets the services of Joe Bravo, who specializes in these scenarios; he scored here last year in his seasonal bow in a very similar spot, as that was another race light on pace, and he can steal this if he's in fact able to slow things down up front.
