After capturing her Autumn Stakes elimination last week, Aubsession once again returned to victory lane in the $60,000 final for driver Jody Jamieson on Friday evening at Woodbine.
The heavily-favored daughter of Lis Mara celebrated the biggest win of her career for trainer Bill Budd and owners Jocelyne Gagnon and Gloria Aubertin.
In the early going, Trama Unit (Jonathan Drury) left the gate alertly along with Apach Of Luck (Richard Moreau) and Aubsession. Trama Unit was first to the quarter in a quick :26 4/5 with Aubsession still on the outside and Apach Of Luck sitting in the pocket.
Aubsession would make her way to the front well before the mid-way point in :56.
The seven-time winner would continue to lead her eight rivals past three-quarters in 1:25 1/5, but both Trama Unit and Apach Of Luck were within striking distance of the leader.
Jamieson asked his charge for more pace and Aubsession was able to respond, using a :28 1/5 final quarter to fend off both challengers in deep stretch to get under the wire first in 1:53 2/5. Apach Of Luck finished second, ahead of Trama Unit.
“I thought Greystone Ladylike was the horse to beat in this series, but she was scratched tonight,” Jamieson said. “With her out, I thought I was the next best and it worked out."
Jamieson admits the race set up as expected.
“I expected Johnny (Jonathan Drury driving Trama Unit) to leave like last week and I knew Apach Of Luck would be getting away near the front," Jamieson said. "Once I was able to get around Johnny she settled right in and was able to fight them off. She was just as good last week as this week.”
With the victory the bay filly increased her career bankroll to $84,855. She has crafted a 7-1-1 record from 25 starts this season. She paid $3.90 to win.
