Woodbine: $32K mare tops sale

Numberonetreasure, a $32,000 purchase by E. Jacqueline Armstrong, topped the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's winter mixed sale at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Etobicoke, Ontario, On Saturday and Sunday.

Numberonetreasure, a 6-year-old Bold Ruckus mare in foal to Langfuhr, was sold by Schonberg Farm as agent for Gustav Schickedanz, who owns 2003 Canadian Horse of the Year Wando, a son of Langfuhr.

A $30,000 colt from the first crop of Perigee Moon topped the weanling portion of the sale. Consigned by Woodlands, as agent for Lucille Wakefield, the colt was bought by Park Stud.

Unraced broodmare prospect Ivey's Arabella brought the third highest price at the sale. Agent Yvonne Schwabe paid $25,000 for the daughter of Dr. Adagio, who was consigned by Windfields Farm, agent.

On Saturday, 74 broodmares sold for a total of $290,400, averaging $3,924. At the 2002 sale, 62 broodmares brought $373,900, an average of $6,031. On Sunday, 74 weanlings, yearlings, and horses of racing age brought $304,500, averaging $4,115. At last year's corresponding session, 61 lots sold for $348,000, an average of $5,705.

A total of 102 horses were listed as not sold this year, compared with 30 in 2002.
